I-T raids on doctors in Mangalore

Mangalore, November 23: Suspecting financial anomalies, the income tax officials on Wednesday raided the houses of a few prominent doctors in the city, sources said.

Raids, which began early morning, were also conducted in several offices as well as residences of the doctors.

The two separate teams of officials, who came from Bangalore and Mysore with two dozens of vehicles, swooped down on doctors in Doctors' Colony and other parts of the city.

It is not confirmed whether the IT officials unearthed any illegal property in the ongoing raids.

Yusuffali MA donates Rs 25 crore to PM-CARES Fund to combat COVID-19

New Delhi, April 3: Chairman of Lulu Group, Yusuffali MA on Thursday contributed Rs 25 crores to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) to combat coronavirus.

"I have humbly contributed INR 25 Crores to the PM Cares Fund to support all relief works in India's fight against the COVID-19," Yusuffali said in a tweet.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had created PM CARES Fund and appealed to all the countrymen to show their support for the cause.
The prime minister is the chairman of the trust and its members include the defence minister, the home minister and the finance minister.

PFI, SDPI will be banned; party hopper MLAs who joined BJP will be awarded: K S Eshwarappa

Mysuru, Jan 19: Karnataka Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa on Sunday claimed that Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India have been indulging in anti-national activities.

Talking to media persons here, he said the government is mulling to ban and take action against PFI and its political arm SDPI.

It was recommended even during the previous government, but it was not taken seriously, he added.

He said that the BJP will ensure that all the MLAs who were instrumental in the party coming to power (the then-disqualified MLAs who joined BJP from Congress and JDS recently and won the bypoll subsequently) will not be let down and be given suitable posts in the government.

Quarantine station to be set up at Chamundi animal rescue centre

Mysuru, Feb 23: A Quarantine station for rescued wild animals for rehabilitation will soon come up at Chamundi Animal Conservation, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at Koorgalli, an independent facility developed by the Mysuru Zoo on the outskirts of the City of Palaces and it complies with the recommended quarantine procedures followed globally by Zoological gardens.

The work on the construction was expected to start soon as the tender process had been under progress.

The Zoo was using its own funds to develop the facility for multiple animal species and to ensure that no infections from the wild animals were spread to the healthy animals already in captivity since many years.
