NAIF holds inter-religious interaction meet

Mangalore, November 24: The New Age India Forum (NAIF), on Thursday organised an inter-religious interaction meet at Town hall here.

The chief guest of the function Rev Father Francis D Almeda, Vice principal of St Aloysius College, said that all the citizens of this country should unite as Indians, although they belong to different religions.

“Integration must be developed within our minds”, he said.

He also called upon the individuals to have goals in their lives. “There are four types of people: those who do not have goals, those who have goals but don't know how to reach them, those who do not reach goals and those who fight till the goal is reached, like Ganhdiji”, he said.

Condemning the practice of caste system, he exhorted the people to serve the needy. “We must identify the poor and uplift them”, he said.

In his introductory address, Rafiuddin Kudroli, president of NAIF said that one of the intentions of the forum is to create a harmonious atmosphere among Muslims and the followers of other faiths.

Abdul Salam Puthige, editor-in-chief, Vartha Bharathi Kannada daily was present.

Mangaluru, Feb 6: Over 1500 students and teachers are expected to take part in a three-day State-level conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) starting on Friday here.

Reception Committee chairman K.C. Nayak and secretary Shantharama Shetty told reporters here today that Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayana would inaugurate the conference at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall.

The former ABVP national president and former Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya would preside over the programme that would be attended by Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P.S. Yadapadithaya, ABVP national organising secretary Ashish Chauhan and others.

In this conference students will be taught about how to attack on universities and how to spread the communal agenda of ABVP.

Mangaluru, Feb 2: A local court on Saturday remanded Aditya Rao,the suspect in the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) bomb case, to two weeks judicial custody.

Rao was produced before the Sixth Judicial First Class Magistrate Court after the 10-day police custody expired.

Rao has been in police custody since January 22 after he surrendered before the police in Bengaluru on January 21 and was later brought here.

He had allegedly planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the airport on January 20 triggering panic and later made a hoax call to the airport terminal that a bomb had been planted in an IndiGo flight.

During the last ten days, police took the accused to several places in the city and Udupi where he had frequented in the recent past.

He was also taken to the room where he stayed while he was working at a hotel in the city.

Mangaluru, Jul 31: Muslims across coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada today observed Eid al Adha following the safety guidelines issued by the government amidst covid-19 pandemic. 

While coastal Karnataka is celebrating the festival of sacrifice today, it will be observed in other parts of Karnataka and country tomorrow. 

Congregational Eid prayers were held in many mosques while ensuring physical distancing norms. Only 50 devotees were allowed in mosques. Children below 10 years of age and elders above 60 years of age weren’t allowed. 

Eidgahs in the region wore a deserted look as the government has temporarily prohibited prayers in the open grounds. The Eidgah at Lighthouse Hill in Mangaluru, which usually witnessed huge crowd during Eid celebrations, was also closed this time. 

As expected, the celebration this time was a low key thanks to the restrictions placed in tune with the threat of coronavirus infection.

Prayers were held in Kudroli’s Nadupalli and Bundar’s Zeenat Bakhsh Central mosque. All those who entered mosque were wearing masks. 

In Udupi city, Eid prayers were held at Jamia Masjid and other mosques with limited number of devotees. In Bhatkal took some of the mosques hosted Eid prayers with all precautionary measures.
