Nrityotsava-2011 concludes on spectacular note

Mangalore, November 26: The 'Nrityotsava-2011' a 10-day Maharashtrian Folk Dance workshop organised under the joint auspices of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan and Shree Devi Nritya Kendra was on Friday evening concluded on a spectacular note at Town Hall here.

The Nrithyotsava-2011 was held under the guidance of noted dance guru and artist Anil Kumar Kichi from New Delhi. The Shree Devi Nritya Trust was formed by Jayalaxmi Alva and late Ramakrishna Alva in Mangalore in 1994, has been conducting many workshops on Bharatanatya and other dance forms for past 15 years.

The valedictory programme commenced after a grand performance by the young artistes.

The chief guest of the evening was S K Umesh, chief Manager of Indian Overseas bank. “We are proud to be associated with the performing arts as it is our corporate social responsibility”, he said.

Mangalore airport Director MR Vasudeva who is also the honorary secretary of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan was also present.

Jayalaxmi Alva who is known as Guru also adorned the stage. Dr Arathi Shetty welcomed the gathering.

The participants presented a colourful performance of various dance forms like Lazem, Koli dance and Thali Dance forms. Certificates were distributed to the participants. Anil Kumar Kichi, who conducted the workshop was felicitated with a shawl and moment on this occasion.

Belthangady, Jun 26: Thieves broke into a house at Kalmanja village in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada during the wee hours on Friday and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 13 lakhs after tying the inmates of an areca merchant's house.

Police said the stolen valuables include 40 sovereigns gold, one kg silver and cash of Rs 25,000. The robbery took place in the house of Achyut Bhat who is an areca merchant in Ujire.

The house inmates opened the door after hearing dogs barking. Immediately the criminals, wearing masks, barged into the house and threatening to kill tied them before escaping with the booty.

Bengaluru, May 17: Karnataka Government on Sunday decided to appoint Administrative Committees, to over 6000 Panchayat Bodies, in the state, who’s five-year term would comes to an end this month.

Speaking to the media here, the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Minister, K S Eshwarappa informed that the state cabinet met recently had favored to appoint committees which would replace the elected bodies.

Informing that there is provision in the Panchayath Raj Act to appoint the committees, he said that the concerned Deputy Commissioners of the district, would appoint the members, to the committee, who were eligible to be nominated to the committees.

Mangaluru, Jan 3: A young entrepreneur reportedly jumped off the Netravati bridge near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today morning.

The youth who allegedly committed suicide has been Navesh Kottari, 30, a resident of Ullalbail. He was the proprietor of N J Shamiyana.

The incident took place at around 6:30 a.m. Police and fire brigade rushed to the spot after sometime and launched search operation for the body in the river Netravati.

The body was retrieved in the afternoon.
