New Government Medical College to come up in Badiadka

Kasargod, November 26: Health Minister Adoor Prakash said here on Friday that the proposed medical college in the district would be located in Ukkinadka near Badiadka.

Addressing mediapersons here, the minister said that 50 acres of land has been identified for the purpose. Dr K G R Pillai has been appointed as special officer of the medical college. “The government anticipates a total outlay of Rs 250 crore for the project which is expected to be mopped up through Private Public Participation,” said the minister. He also stated that five dialysis machines each would be set up in all the 14 districts.

The minister said that the main reason for the shortage of doctors in the state was the non-availability of qualified candidates to fill the vacancies. “There is a shortage of 800 doctors in the state, but when the Public Service Commission called for interview of doctors only 60 candidates turned up to take up the job.

“Doctors are not willing to work in government services, but the vacancies would be filled in a phased manner,” he said.

The minister said that when the government improved the quality of medical service in hospitals, the number of staff also registered an increase.

Mysuru, Mar 24:m who returned from foreign travel and flouted home quarantine guidelines has been arrested in Mysuru on Monday. 

The man, who returned from Australia, had a seal on his hand but was roaming around the city. 

According to police, he was supposed to be under home quarantine till April 6. V V Puram Police took him into custody.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The week-long ban imposed by the Karnataka Government from Saturday is yet to get a total response in the State to fight against the spread of killer disease Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The ban has witnessed a considerable reduction in the travelling public by Bus and train. Bus terminal and Railway stations wore desert look or only a very few public travelling. KSRTC, which was maintaining service for every 10 minutes once between the State Capital and to City of Palaces, was forced to cancel most of the service due to very little patronage. 

"We were left with no option but to cancel the fleet since there are no passengers," sources at the KSRTC Bus terminal told media persons.

Bantwal, Apr 29: Two people were injured after the truck laden with poultry feed rammed into the compound wall of after catching fire on Wednesday, at Marnabailu near Melkar.

Police said the injured were the driver and an assistant in the truck. They were admitted to a private hospital at Mangaluru.

However, it is not yet clear whether the truck transporting poultry feed from a company at Kandur caught fire after colliding against the electric pole or with the compound wall.
