'Sustantivo-2011' inter-collegiate fest gets underway at St Agnes College

Mangalore, November 28: 'Sustantivo 2011' a two-day national-level inter-collegiate fest is under way at St Agnes College in city.

The event commenced with an attractive march by students of various participant colleges on Monday morning. The stage programme was inaugurated by Lakshmi Kumaran, DGM, MRPL, Mangalore.

Speaking on the occasion Ms Kumaran called upon the students to enthusiastically participate in extracurricular activities.

She also said that inter-collegiate fests like'Sustantivo' bring together students from all streams.

“The concept of education should not be reduced to gaining a degree”, she said.

Presiding over the programme, Sr Prem D'souza, principal, St Agnes College said that 'Sustantivo' aims to inculcate values of team work by bringing students of different streams together on one platform.

“This fest is not only providing an opportunity to the students to exhibit their talents, but, they can share their ideas as well.

According to the organisers hundreds of students from nearly two dozens of colleges are taking part in the fest.

The competitions include tattoo making, quiz, vegetable carving, face painting, mock press, variety show, creative writing etc.

Prof. Malini Hebbar, staff convener, Sustantivo- 2011 welcomed. Soudamini Chandarana, student president, proposed vote of thanks.

Mangaluru, Jun 17: The first chartered flight repatriating Indians stranded at Kuwait for months landed at the international airport here.

The Jazeera Airways flight privately booked by the Keralites and coastal Kannadigas living in the Arab country had left sometime in the afternoon with 160 passengers on board.

The flight also carried the mortal remains of Sathish Kochu Shetty (45), who died in a fire tragedy at a refinery in Kuwait on June 14.

Bengaluru, May 6: Karnataka has reported 20 new cases of coronavirus taking total number of cases in the state to 693.

The state health department said in a bulletin on Wednesday that 20 new cases have been confirmed for COVID-19 in the state. "The total number of cases in the state is 693," it said.

The count includes 354 patients who have been discharged and 29 patients who succumbed to the disease.

Out of the remaining cases, 303 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals while six patients are in ICU. The bulletin has also reported one death due to non-COVID cause.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 49,391, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday morning.

This includes 33,514 active cases and 1,694 deaths due to infection so far.

A total of 14,182 persons have been cured and discharged so far, according to the Health Ministry. One patient has migrated.

Hubli, Feb 19: The Karnataka Police on Wednesday registered a case against unknown persons for assaulting three Kashmiri students in the court premises here.

A suo motu FIR has been registered at Vidyanagar police station of Hubli in which assault charges have been filed against 10 to 15 unknown people.

It can be recalled that on February 17 these three Kashmiri students were attacked in court premises after they were produced in court on charges of sedition.

The Kashmiri students were arrested here on February 15 after their video in which they are seen allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans went viral.

The students were studying at the KLE Institute of Technology on a central government scholarship.
