Mangalore, December 3: Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes visited the Bhagini Samaj Ashram, the home for the underprivileged children and orphans in the city on Saturday. He was accompanied by noted dance guru and choreographer Dharmesh Sir from Mumbai.

Dharmesh , who is in the city to participate in a dance show also showed interest in interacting with the children of the Ashram. Mr Fernandes had a pleasant look on his face when he was greeted by the 34 children of the Ashram who were seated on the floor waiting for him in a disciplined manner.

On his arrival Mr Fernandes was welcomed with a devotional song by the children.

He interacted with the children about their stay at the Ashram and asked them if they were enjoying it.

Speaking to media persons Mr Fernandes pledged to donate the money to the Ashram from the MP's fund, since it is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2012. Already around Rs 10 lakh has been spent on various repair works including the flooring of the ashram, he said.

He reconfirmed that for the 75th anniversary his party would participate actively in providing the necessary cooperation for the development of the ashram.

He also said that these kinds of ashrams remind us that humanity is still alive and one must spread love and compassion amongst the underprivileged. This is a yeoman service being done by the Bhagini Samaj, he said.

He also distributed fruits like apples and oranges.

The dance guru too felt a unique bond with the children. Expressing his feelings he said, “Every time I come here it is a unique experience and I feel a special connection with these children. When I have enough money I wish to open an ashram of this nature for such children. If I had planned earlier I would have brought some gifts for the children”, he said.

The warden of the ashram, Pushpalatha was happy about the visit and said, “We need donations for some repair work and also to celebrate 75th anniversary.”

Bengaluru, Jun 24: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah criticised the current state government rates for COVID-19 treatment in private hospitals and said that the patients must be treated free of charge in all hospitals.

"The state government has fixed rates for treating COVID-19. The current rates are shocking to the people," Siddaramaiah said.
Questioning the state government, he said, "Where can people pay these rates fixed by the government per day? Looking at these rates can be heartbreaking for the people. This raises the question of whether the government is sensitive to people's issues."

"The government must promptly announce free treatment and set up a standard treatment protocol. The government should appoint a panel of experts to continuously monitor whether treatment is being properly administered and create an environment where the public is free from anxiety," Siddaramaiah added.

Karnataka on Tuesday reported 322 fresh COVID-19 positive cases and eight deaths.
According to the state health department, the total number of positive cases has mounted to 9,721 and 150 deaths. So far, 6,004 people have been discharged.

Kozhikode, Jun 14: A mosque in Kuttichira of Kozhikode has found a unique way to avoid crowding amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee that runs the mosque has started issuing smart cards to people for offering prayers and simultaneously encouraging social distancing.

"The committee has given smart cards with numbers to the people in the surroundings of the Masjid. One who enters the mosque premises has to rub their hands with sanitizers. They also have to tell their identity on camera. The automatic system has been put in place to save the address and phone number. Next time onwards they have to say their smart card number only so that other details will be automatically filled," said Muhammad Sajjad, who is part of the Mosque committee.

"The door of the mosque will open automatically after swiping the card. We have fit in a sensor on the doors. We have also made marks inside the mosque area so that people can abide by social distancing norm," he added.

A couple of days back the Kerala government has rolled out an order allowing the opening of places of worship, malls and restaurants from June 9 in strict accordance with guidelines and social distancing norms. As per the guidelines, pregnant women and those with co-morbidities should not visit any places of worship. Those with symptoms should not be allowed.
