Rotary Mangalore Metro elocution competition on Dec 13

Mangalore, December 7: As part of the Rotary Programme to spread awareness of the Polio disease and to encourage children to know about Rotary's Role in Polio eradication, Rotary Mangalore Metro will be conducting an Elocution Competition on the topic Rotary's Role in Polio Eradication.

This Elocution Competition will be conducted at Canara High School Main on the December 13 at 2.30 pm according to a press release issued here by Sumith.S.Rao, Convenor, Rotary Club of Mangalore Metro.

The first prize winner will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs.1000/- along with a certificate, the second prize winner will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs.500/- along with a certificate and third prize winner will be awarded with a certificate.

This competition is for children from the high school level i.e., from 8th to 10th standard. 3 children from each school can participate in the above programme. The time limit for the elocution competition shall be 3 minutes with extra time of 1 minute.

This programme is aimed at publicizing Rotary's Role in eradicating Polio worldwide. Rotary has spent more than 600 million dollars along with generous contributions from Rotarians and the Bill and Melinda gates foundation to help eradicate Polio from the space of the earth.

In fact, in India this year there has not been a single outbreak of polio and only a few nations across the world namely Pakistan, Afghanistan and China have reported Polio cases during the current year.

In this view, this quiz will help to build visibility towards the Polio eradication programme. The winners of this quiz will have a opportunity to participate in the District level, Regional level and National level elocution competition and may win prizes up to Rs.3,000/-, 10,000/- and 25,000/- respectively, stated the release.

Udupi, Apr 4: District Commissioner Jagadeesh has warned that the vehicles of people who break lockdown norms will be seized.
 
Addressing the media, he said, “People who want to buy essential items are allowed come out of the house between 1100 hrs and 1900 hrs, but we have noticed that some are unnecessarily coming out and blocking the roads. If this continues, vehicles of such people will be seized.”
 
No new COVID-19 positive cases were reported since Friday Udupi district.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: An auto-mobile shop at Deralakatte here caught fire on Friday incurring huge loss on the shopkeeper.

According to police, the incident happened in the morning when the shop owner opened the shop.

Locals suspect that miscreants might have set the shop on fire and had escaped from the scene at night.

Bengaluru, May 11: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday inaugurated four buses that have been converted into COVID-19 testing facilities in Bengaluru.

State Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka and Member of Parliament from Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya were also present.

"The mobile fever clinic bus initiative was taken by Sanchit Gaurav, Founder and CEO of Housejoy, in association with the Government of Karnataka, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), MP Tejaswi Surya, other partners, to increase the number of COVID tests across Bengaluru and win the fight against the virus," said KSRTC in a statement.

The bus is divided into two zones with beds and a consultation area, maintaining proper hygiene conditions.

The KSRTC said there will be four teams with four mobile bus clinics across Bengaluru - each team comprising of one doctor, three nurses and one lab technician with several volunteers facilitating the process.

The teams will be starting from red zones and will try to screen the maximum number of residents from these zones for symptoms and quarantine those who test positive.

"The testing process will start by providing free glucose, blood pressure test and COVID-19 symptoms consultation for all residents," KSRTC added.

If anyone showcases any COVID-19 symptoms, their swab will be collected immediately for testing by Biognosys Technologies (ICMR certified).

Further, the information will be provided to the government and place the person under quarantine.

"KSRTC has already initiated this mobile fever clinic buses with the association of the District Administration in Mysuru, Mandya, Tumkur, Mangaluru, Bagalkote, Hubli, Belagavi, Bengaluru and Raichur," it said.

According to the KSRTC on April 25, the cost of this clinic construction on a bus is Rs 50,000.
