Mangalore, December 9: Terming those who oppose 'Made-Made-Snana' as 'Hindu-haters' and 'ignorant people', the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has urged the Karnataka State government not to ban the controversial ritual at government-run Kukke Subrahmanya Temple in Sullia taluk.

Glorifying the ritual at a press meet here on Friday, Mohan Gowda, Spokesperson, HJS, said that those who offer 'Made-Made-Snana' would be protected from diseases and problems.

He lamented for intensifying opposition to the ritual. “A few so called intellectuals and leaders have condemned the historical 'Made-Made-Snana' out of their ignorance, and some politicians went on to the extent of comparing it to untouchability and superstition. This is very unfortunate”, he said.

He also expressed unhappy over the Government's recent proposal to ban the ritual. “With an eye on the vote banks of certain sections, the State government has pledged to impose ban on this glorious tradition of Hindus. Besides, a few people have spread the false notion that diseases like AIDS would spread through rolling on plantain leaves containing leftovers of lunch served to Brahmins”, he said. However, one can realise the importance of 'Made-Made-Snana' through Hindu theology, he added.

“In fact all sections of the society have been following this annual ritual out of their own will. By offering 'Made-Made-Snana' many forms of skin diseases, marriage problems, offspring problems and Serpent curse will be eradicated”, he said.

He further stated that this ritual is an inseparable part of Hindu belief.

Prices of vegetables, fruits, chicken soar in Mangaluru amid lockdown

Mangaluru, Mar 24: Amidst uncertainty and fear in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, the prices of vegetables and fruits have shot up in the coastal city of Mangaluru.

Fearing complete closure of shops, people arrived at the market to purchase vegetables in large numbers today morning.

Encashing the situation, the traders too increased the prices of vegetables and fruits.

Tomatoes that were sold for Rs 15 to 20 per kg in the last few days were sold at Rs 40 to 60 per kg.

Long yard beans were sold at Rs 50 per kg while okra fetched Rs 60 per kg in the market. Onions were sold at Rs 40 to Rs 60 per kg.

Owing to rumours, the price of chicken was reduced to Rs 50 per kg. On Monday, it had increased to Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg.

Karnataka govt to build guest house for Kannadiga pilgrims in Ayodhya

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Anticipating a huge number of pilgrims from Karnataka to start visiting Ayodhya following the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday requested his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath for two acres of land to build a 'yatri nivas' (guest house).

"A large number of pilgrims from Karnataka would be visiting Ayodhya. The government of Karnataka wishes to construct a yatri nivas for the pilgrims visiting Ayodhya," Yediyurappa wrote to Yogi.

"I request you to grant two acres of land in Ayodhya for this purpose," he said.

The Chief Minister said the yatri nivas will be constructed for the benefit of pilgrims from the southern state.

He also congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for successfully laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple on Wednesday.

Karnataka govt mulls law to help investors sell off their unused land

Bengaluru, Jan 28: The state government is set to allow investors who bought farmland for industrial and other purposes to sell it off if they fail to use it within seven years. The new buyers, however, must utilise the land parcel for the same purpose for which it was allotted.

An amendment bill in this regard will be tabled during the joint session of the assembly, which begins on February 17.

Currently, investors remain tied to unused parcels. Law and parliamentary affairs minister JC Madhuswamy said the amendment to Section 109 of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, which deals with the purchase of farmland for non-agricultural purposes, would remove hurdles for disposal of such plots. “To prevent misuse of land, the bill makes it mandatory for the new buyer to utilise it for the purpose for which the land was purchased by the first investor,” he said.

The government will also table a bill which seeks to regulate the affairs of religious and educational trusts. It will empower the government to intervene in the affairs of the trusts when irregularities come to light.

“Currently, the government has no role to play when allegations of irregularities and mismanagement crop up against trustees. The bill seeks to address this,” Madhuswamy said. He clarified the government didn’t want to interfere in trusts’ affairs. But some issues, he added, were of concern: trustees illegally selling off the trust property.
