Reduce gap between classroom teaching and industry requirements'

Nitte, December 10: Now a days there is a big gap between the classroom teaching and industry requirements and the technical colleges should see that this gap is reduced by proper designing of the engineering education curriculum, said Er Chandrashekharaiah S.B Executive Engineer, SCADA (Design) SLDC, KPTCL., Bangalore.

He was inaugurating two-day national level conference on Advances in Electrical Engineering (NCAEE-2011) held in NMAM Institute of Technology, NITTE from Friday.

The quality engineers can produce quality products which not only suit the requirements of the common man but also can compete in the international market. Such conference will help the technologists to update the knowledge in producing quality products and also the area in which the advancement of technology is required, he said.

Dr S Y Kulkarni, Principal of the institute in his presidential speech said: “Advances in any field is a perception and we have to reach to the level of thinking of the advanced countries. The advancement in any field including technology can happen only through research and such conferences will help the researchers to face the future challenges. He also said “Research should not be the continuation of the previous work. The researcher should have a deep knowledge in the chosen field and the result of the research should reach to the common man”.

Prof Vasudeva Shettigar, Head of the department of Electrical &Electronics Engineering welcomed the gathering. Prof Latha Shenoy introduced the Chief Guest. Raksha Adapa proposed the vote of thanks. Arul Lobo compered the ceremony. More than 75 delegates from all over the country registered to present their technical papers in the conference.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.

Udupi, Jun 9: Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary School S Suresh Kumar on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of either postponing or cancelling SSLC exam in the State and it will start from June 25 as scheduled.

Replying to a question, the Minister said that Telangana and Tamil Nadu States might have cancelled the SSLC exam, but Karnataka will not follow them. "Will hold the examination from June 25 to July 4 by taking all care to protect the interests of the Children.

The SSLC exam was originally scheduled for March 27, but was postponed as lockdown was clamped following the spread of killer Coronavirus.

Gadag, Aug 1: A woman in Gadag district of Karnataka mortgaged her 'mangalsutra' to buy a television set for her children following the Karnataka government's decision to continue the classes through TV amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A resident of Radder Naganur village, Kasturi, who is also a mother of two, purchased a television set against her 'mangalsutra' for Rs 14,000. She bought the TV after her children's school teachers asked them to attend classes via the television set.

Kasturi said, "I can not send the children to the neighbours' house every day and it was necessary for them to study. We had no other option but to buy a TV set."

She said, "Both, my husband and I are daily wage workers and during coronavirus, we do not have work or money."

"I sold my 'mangalsutra' for Rs 20,000 and bought a TV for Rs 14,000," said Kasturi while happily adding, "Now, my kids can study at home itself."

Kasturi's daughter, Surekha said, "We did not have the TV for several months but now when we have it, we will study and get a bigger 'mangalsutra' for my mother."
