Mangalore, December 12: Inspector-General of Police (Western Range) Alok Mohan, who is set to embark on higher studies abroad, has expressed satisfaction about his performance as the chief of policing operations in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Uttara Kannada districts.

In an informal interaction with journalists at his office in the city on Monday, Mr Mohan expressed his gratitude to the 'wise people' of the region for their overwhelming support and cooperation in maintaining law and order.

Mr Mohan said that the government has showed green signal for him to join Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) School of Public Policy at National University of Singapore to study 'Master in Public Management' (MPM).

The MPM programme is an exclusive one-year full time programme targeted at senior level executives from the public sector with over 10 years of leadership experience. It offers candidates a unique opportunity to spend the first semester studying at the LKY School and the second semester at the John F Kennedy School of Government (KSG), Harvard University.

The outgoing IGP said that the course is however a part of his job process and the Union government would bear all the expenses including air ticket.

He also informed that he was one among the four Indians, who were among 25 candidates selected for the course from across the world. “After successful completion of the course, I will be more capable of handling things” he said.

Mr Mohan, who had initiated his last task with a promise of 'people friendly policing', said that his mission to reduce gap between police and public has brought a remarkable change.

Crime Reduced

He also said that crime rate in the Western Range has been considerably reduced during his tenure.

The number of robbery cases which includes chain snatching was reduced this year to 56 compared to last year's 92 cases. The number of house theft cases too reduced from 81 to 53 within a year, he pointed out.

Pratap Reddy, the IGP in fire services, is expected to replace Alok Mohan as Western Range IGP soon.
