NITK to hold international conference on Adcons

Mangalore, December 13: National Institute of Technology-Karnataka, Suratkal will be organising an international conference on Advanced Computing, Networking and Security (Adcons) from December 16 to 18.


Revealing this to media persons on Tuesday Prof. G. Umesh, Director-in-charge NITK, said that the event the grand finale of the yearlong silver-jubilee celebrations of the department of Computer Science and Engineering of NITK.


He said that the conference is being organised to provide a stimulating forum to policy makers, researchers, practitioners, developers and users share ideas, report findings, discuss products and define future directions in the field of Advanced Computing, Networking and Security. The conference will feature Technical sessions with contributed papers, invited talks, tutorials, doctoral Consortium and panel discussion, he said.


He informed that the conference is expected to be attended by about 200 delegates from various countries including India, USA, South Korea, China, Poland, and Iran.


The comprehensive range of topics that will be addressed in this conference including High Performance Computing, Service Oriented Computing, Information Retrieval, Pattern Recognition, Image processing, Wireless and Adhoc Networks, Sensor Networks, Network Infrastructure, Cryptography, Web security and Application, he said.


The conference starts on December 16, with pre-conference tutorials and doctoral consortium presentations and the technical sessions commence from December 17 until December 18.


The inaugural ceremony is scheduled to be held between 9:30am and 10:30am on December 17 at NITK-Suratkal. The conference is scheduled to be inaugurated by prof. Raj Jain, Washington University, and followed by his keynote address. Dr. BK Murthy, Senior Director and Head (HRD and NKN), DIT, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, GOI, New Delhi will be the guest of honour and will release the Conference Book proceedings. Colonel Rajmohan, Head, Center for Excellence for Information Security, Tata Consultancy Services, Bangalore will release the CD proceedings and will deliver a keynote address. The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by Prof. Sandeep Sancheti, outgoing Director, NITK-Suratkal.


Prof Umesh said that the three-day conference is being organised in association with Advanced Computing Society (ACS), India and Computer Society of India (CSI), India and Security Xploded, Bangalore and sponsored by TCS, CSIR, DRDO, INSA, MCIT and SBI and several local industries.

Mangaluru, Jan 16: Following the widespread protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), former minister and MLA UT Khader on Thursday urged the Centre and State government to address the concerns of the people.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said there is widespread confusion among the public with regard to the implementation of the Act. People are reluctant to open their doors to Asha workers, out of fear that the NRC exercise is being implemented, said Khader.

He urged the chief minister and home minister to gain the trust of the people on the CAA issue.

Bengaluru, Feb 4: Congress leader and former minister U T Khader today demanded an “objective” probe by an IAS officer into the sedition case the police have booked against a school in Bidar for a play students staged on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

On January 26, the Shaheen Primary and High School was charged by the Bidar New Town police with sedition on January 26. This was based on a complaint by an Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) worker who claimed that the play staged by the students on January 21 “insulted” Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On January 30, the police arrested Nazbunnisa, the mother of an 11-year-old student and Fareeda Begum, a head-teacher in the school.

“This shows how today in India and in Karnataka, the BJP is looking to suppress the voices of people. Sedition cases have no value anymore,” UT Khader told a news conference.

“When a complaint on sedition is filed, action must be taken after obtaining legal opinion. But today, a written complaint by any BJP worker is enough to brand someone as anti-national. Even schoolchildren aren’t spared,” Khader said.

“An IAS officer should be appointed to objectively probe this. If something is found, then the police can continue the investigation,” Khader said. “But the government should pressurize the police. We’ve seen what happened in Mangaluru,” he said, referring to the police shootout that killed two people during an anti-CAA protest. “I know it’s difficult for officials to resist political pressure, but a line must be drawn. All officials must come together and send the government a message, that they will not be bogged down to pressure that’s against societal interests,” he added.

Khader said he lacked faith in the BJP government. “That’s because the BJP tends to give election tickets to those who plant bombs,” Khader said, citing the example of terror-accused Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur. “Even the Aditya Rao case (Mangaluru airport bomb planter)...we don’t know what’s happening. They just want to hush it up,” Khader charged.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday demanded that the state government drop its plan to provide doorstep delivery of liquor.

"After faltering in mopping up revenue, the state government is mulling over allowing doorstep delivery of liquor by enabling online sales and starting new MSIL liquor shops in rural areas. I demand that the state government drop its plans," he tweeted.

"I came to know that the excise commissioner is keen to hold talks with a private firm to enable online sale of liquor. The government should back out from such a foolish decision. Otherwise, agitation is inevitable," Kumaraswamy said.

He said opening new liquor shops or online delivery will ruin the health of society.

"Post-COVID outbreak and subsequent lockdown, people are facing financial distress, struggling to lead day-to-day life. 

The government must withdraw such an imprudent decision to deliver liquor at doorsteps. Opening new liquor shops or the decision of online delivery in times of distress like this will spoil society's health. 

It is not fair for the government to fill its coffers by robbing people's money," he said in a series of tweets.
