DGCA finally renews licence of Mangalore Airport

Mangalore, December 13: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has renewed the licence of Mangalore airport for a period of two-years up to December 15, 2013.

The licence of Mangalore airport had expired on June 15, 2010 just a few days after the Air India IX 812 crash which claimed at least 158 persons on board.

The Airports Authority of India is required to submit periodic compliance reports to the DGCA based on routine inspections carried out by the authority in wake of renewal of the license.

AAI is also required to obtain DGCAs permission for any new development or specific concessions required.

It can be mentioned that in the last week of September, Karnataka High Court had directed the Assistant Solicitor General of India (ASGI) to submit details related to the status of renewal of licence of Mangalore Airport.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the pending renewal of licence of the Airport, the Court had directed ASGI Kalyan Basavaraj to seek instructions from the DGCA regarding the status of the renewal application by AAI.

Bengaluru, May 5: Migrant workers blocked national highway near Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) in Bengaluru on Monday, demanding to be sent back to their home states.

Revenue Minister R Ashok and CM's Political Secretary Vishwanath visited the spot and sent all migrant workers to BIEC center.

The protest caused more traffic and Peenya Police Inspector also suffered minor injuries while sending the migrants. Most of the migrants hail from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

As per the information from, some migrant workers tried to throw stones at the police while they tried to evacuate them from the road to the BIEC center.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: No positive case of coronavirus has been detected in Dakshina Kannada district as per the latest update released by the district administration on Friday.

Test results of throat swab samples of 16 people with suspected symptoms were received today and all of them were negative.

A total of 38,518 people have been screened for coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada district till date with 72 people being screened today.

Bengaluru, Mar 11: With the outbreak of coronavirus, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday said that over 1,000 people in the state have been identified for observation.

"So far, 1048 people have been identified for observation. Out of which 446 samples have been sent for testing. 389 samples have tested negative. Four samples have tested positive," Chief Minister Yediyurappa told reporters.

Earlier today, Health Minister B Sriramulu said that family members of those who tested positive for COVID-19 have been isolated and their health is being monitored.
