Mangalore, December 17: Two Syndicate members of the Mangalore University have demanded action against the principal of Government First Grade College Vittal for his irresponsible behavior and the injustice meted out to an MSW student.

Speaking at a press conference in Mangalore on Saturday, Ravichandra P.M. and HarishAchar alleged that Kumari Swasthika had been denied admission to MSW “without any valid reason”.

Swasthika, who was declared as passed after she applied for the revaluation of her BSW papers, had applied for the MSW course. After obtaining an oral permission from the principal on September 6, the day Swasthika got her revaluation results and also the last date for submission of application, she had started appearing the classes.

But when she produced the marks card and showed the receipt for the payment of the fees on September 9, the Principal snubbed her saying the last-date for the same was long past. Her repeated pleas fell on deaf ears and the issue was subsequently presented before the registrar of the university. The registrar in his decision on 23rd November stated that the student could not be accommodated.

Swasthika, upset by the turn of events, had approached Syndicate members and people's representatives seeking justice. But on learning that the girl was trying to pursue the issue, the principal summoned Swasthika and forced her to write a letter stating that she was not interested in pursuing her MSW on 2nd October 2011.

Mr. Ravichandra and Mr. Achar, speaking to reporters, warned that they would raise the issue at the Syndicate meeting of the university to be held on December 23 and demand suspension of the Principal. They also demanded an inquiry into the incident.

“We have written to the Higher Education Minister and the Department of Collegiate Education,” they said.

Very sad. What happening to our youths. Are they going crazy or the mountain fell on them?  Why do our people are becoming so coward? I think many are going under depression. Govt should set up rehabilitation/counselling centres in each Mandals/Taluks/Districts to treat such people.
