Youth fest will be organised in a disciplined manner: Palemar

Mangalore, December 20: Preparations are going on in full strength for the 17th National Youth Festival which will commence in Mangalore from January 12. The event which is organised for the first time in the district will be organised with all grandeur and in a disciplined manner, said District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar.

Presiding over a preparatory meeting of the people's representatives at Zilla Panchayat Hall on Monday, the Minister said that necessary arrangements will be made for accommodating the participants and guests at hotels and college and university hostels.

He also said that provisions will be made to issue the government and private bus passes to students who wish to visit Mangalore to watch the events.

On the inaugural programme, Deputy Commissioner Chennappa Gowda said that the inaugural procession will be held with grandeur depicting the culture and tradition of Tulunadu. Alva's Education Foundation has taken up the responsibility of organising the procession, which will have over 500 artistes. It will be accompanied by 200 artistes playing 'Chende' and 'Kombu'. “As many as 16 committees have been constituted and each committee is assigned with a task. Some of the committees include organising committee, executive committee, registration committee, food and accommodation committee, transport sub committee, protocol sub committee,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DC also said that holidays will not be declared for the schools and colleges on account of the festival. Two days of the festival will fall on the government holidays i.e on January 14 and 15. However, no holiday will be declared, but permission will be granted for the teachers to attend the festival.

Zilla Panchayat member Mamatha Gatti insisted on involving Youth Club members of the district in the festival activities, for which the DC agreed to send intimation to the youth clubs. Corporator Appi requested to provide a platform for the talented differently abled youth to exhibit their talent during the festival. The District-in-Charge Minister replied positively. It was also decided to illuminate the entire city.

MLA Ramanath Rai and Zilla Panchayat member M S Mohammad complained that they were not officially informed about the preparatory meeting.

Bengaluru, May 22: Uber said on Friday it has resumed its operations in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Hubballi, in compliance with Lockdown 4.0 guidelines issued by the Government.

Riders in Bengaluru can book UberAuto, UberGO, Premier, Intercity, Hourly Rental, UberXL, Access, and Assist on their Uber App.

UberAuto, UberGO, Premier, and Intercity are available in Mysuru, UberGO and Intercity services in Mangaluru, and UberAuto services in Hubballi.

Uber Intercity operations will be limited to travel with necessary authorisation and within state boundaries and permissible zones only, the company said in a statement.

Uber said it has launched comprehensive measures such as the distribution of PPE kits, including masks, sanitisers and disinfectants to drivers and the introduction of mandatory educational video courses for them.

Mangaluru, July 28: In an unexpected development, the government of Karnataka has transferred Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

The development comes days after the IAS officer warned of legal action against those attacking cattle traders in the region.

Another IAS officer Dr Rajendra K V who was the CEO of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat, has been transferred and posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

Dr Rajendra is a medical doctor graduated from Bapuji Medical College, Davangere. He had secured the 32nd rank in the civil services examination in 2013.

Sindhu B Rupesh had taken over as DK DC in September 2019.  Now, she is posted as the director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, May 3: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday said that his government has allowed labourers to travel to their hometowns in the state on KSRTC buses free of charge for three days starting on Sunday.

"Labourers have been allowed to travel in KSRTC buses free of charge from the district centres and capital Bengaluru to their hometowns in Karnataka for three days from today," Yediyurappa said.

"The government will bear the cost of travel. The concern is that a large number of labourers should not assemble at any bus stop," he added.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on May 1, issued an order to extend the ongoing lockdown by two more weeks from May 4 and also allowed the movement of migrant workers, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places, by special trains.
