Srinivas Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre set for inauguration

Mangalore, December 22: The Srinivas Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre and Srinivas Hospital, built under the auspices of A Shama Rao Foundation, are all set for inauguration at Srinivas Nagar, Mukka near Suratkal on the outskirts of the city.

Karnataka chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda is expected to inaugurate the Research Centre and Hospital on Friday, December 25, in the presence of Pejawar Mutt pontiff Vishweshwara Theerta Swamiji, said A Srinivas Rao, vice president of the Foundation.

State Minister of Higher Education and Religious Endowment Dr. VS Acharya, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, Secretary of AICC Vinay Kumar Sorake, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore Sriprakash KS will be among the chief guests.

President of A Sharma Rao Foundation CA A Raghavendra Rao will be presiding over the function.

Bengaluru, Aug 9: A youth was killed and three others injured as a pillar of an old temple on the outskirts of Bengaluru fell on them as they and five others dug under it in search of treasure, police said on Saturday.

"One treasure hunter got crushed under a pillar, three suffered injuries and have been hospitalised while five are on the run," a police official said.

The incident occurred at a centuries-old Anjaneya temple in Hindiganala village near Hoskote, around 50 km away from the city, on Thursday night.

Suresh, 23, got crushed to death while Manjunath, 23, Srinivas, 22, and Sebastian Raja Rathna, 22, were injured.

Following the unexpected accident, the injured treasure hunters called a 108 ambulance, leading to the entire incident coming to light.

The ambulance staff helped the youth stuck under the temple pillars and took them to hospital.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Ancient Monuments Act, the Karnataka Treasure Trove Act, and the Indian Penal Code.

According to the official, local youth the village as well as a nearby village were involved in the hunt.

Police are on the lookout for the five treasure hunters on the run.

However, the police official said that it was an old ruined temple and there was nothing there.

Bengaluru, Jul 15: Karnataka on Wednesday reported 3,176 new cases taking the total count of cases in the state to 47,253.

A total of 1,975 new cases were reported from the Bengaluru alone, the state's health department said.

The toll has gone up to 928 with 87 deaths reported today.

The total count of COVID-19 cases in the country is 9,36,181.

Bengaluru, Feb 25: In the view of 2nd PUC exams from March 4, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has approved free travel for students from home to exam centre on Monday.

"BMTC has extended free travel facility to all PUC students from their residence to examination centre on production of exam hall/admission ticket," said a press note.

BMTC has been issuing student concessional passes to travel from their residence to college at concessional rates for the benefit of students.
