CM declares three-day mourning

Mangalore, December 26: The Karnataka government declared a holiday on Monday and a three-day mourning as a mark of respect to former chief minister S Bangarappa, who breathed his last early Monday.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who paid a visit to the house of former Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat president Santhosh Kumar Bhandary at Rayi village in Bantwal taluk to console the grieving family, made this announcement in front of reporters. Bhandary had died of heart attack on Saturday night.

The CM also said that the government would take all necessary measures for a state funeral at Bangarappa's native village Kabatur in Shimoga district on Tuesday with full honours.

“Apart from today's holiday the government has declared a holiday in Shimoga district tomorrow as well to facilitate people to participate in the funeral of Bangarappa,” he said.

The CM also recalled Bangarappa's services to the state and his concern for the welfare of the people.

Belagavi,  Jul 19: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman used a pushcart to take the body of her dead husband to the crematorium after she allegedly did not receive any help from relatives who suspected him to have died of Covid.

The woman and her son were seen pushing the body in the Athani thaluk of Belagavi.

The man had died two days ago at his residence and no family member apart from the close members attended the last rites due to the fear that he was COVID-19 positive.

It was later found that the deceased person was COVID-19 negative.

A total of 3,693 new COVID-19 positive cases and 115 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Friday, said the state health department.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state is presently at 55,115, including 33,205 active cases. While there are 20,757 recoveries, the death toll stands at 1,147.

Mangaluru, Jul 3: A middle aged man killed his wife by pushing her down a stone quarry at Karambaru near Kavoor on the outskirts of the city today.

The victim has been identified as Shanta, aged around 35 years. The accused is her husband Ganesh, aged round 45 years.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The exact reason for the crime is yet to be known. It is learnt that the husband and wife had quarreled before the murder.

A native of Hassan, Ganesh was working as a tipper driver. Shanta hailed from Salethadka in Kasargod. They couple have a son and a daughter. The family stays in a rented house at Kavoor.

Bengaluru, Mar 31: The total number of positive cases of coronavirus reached 101 in Karnataka on Tuesday after 13 more positive cases were reported in the state from March 30 5 pm to 2 pm today.

The total number of 101 includes three deaths and 8 discharged/cured cases, Karnataka Health Department stated.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 1,397 after 146 new patients were reported in the last 24-hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

Of this little less than 1,400 cases, there are 1,238 active while 124 cured. The total figure also includes 35 fatalities.
