Children to sing, act and narrate story on Dec 31

Mangalore, December 29: The 50th programme on 'Kathe kelona, haadu hadona, Kannada ulisona, Kannada belesona'— a singing, acting and story-telling session by Dakshina Kannada district Makkala Sahithya Sangama will be held at Sharada Vidyalaya at Kodialbail in Mangalore on December 31 at 10 am.

Addressing a press meet, resource person Savithri S Rao said the campaign which is the brainchild of Dakshina Kannada Jilla Makkala Sahitya Sangama, aims at inculcating Kannada pride among children through action songs, rhymes and stories in Kannada.

“Further, it is also an effort to create a natural environment for easy learning with an emphasis on improving language skills, memory power, reading habit and also instilling moral values,” she said.

She said story telling in classrooms have vanished in the modern education system.

At the same time, children are not taught Abhinaya geethe in Kannada as well.

The children seemed enjoying the action songs, with their talent in singing and acting coming to the fore.

In a one and half to two hour long session at many places, even many children suggest improvisation for the story.

An exercise to improve their memory power too will be included in the stories. The Sangama has been organising workshop in story, poetry and essay writing for the school kids. 'Kathe kelona, haadu hadona, Kannada ulisona, Kannada belesona' is organised in both Kannada and English medium schools.

It is also an attempt to develop the personality of the children, she added.

The 50th programme at Sharada Vidyalaya will be presided over by Prof M B Puranik.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor and Dakshina Kannada district unit Kannada Sahithya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura will be present.

Coronavirus scare: 80 testing centres in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 14: About 80 centres to check people for fever, cold, cough and other symptoms related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been set up in the city, health officials said here on Saturday.

According to sources in district health department, apart from the testing centres at Wenlock District Hospital and Lady Goshen hospital, six centres in community health centres, 66 in primary health centres (PHC) and four in the taluk hospitals have been opened for people to get themselves checked if they show any COVID-19-related symptoms.

Two other testing centres are already working at the city’s airport and seaport.

Congress creating confusion among Muslim over CAA, claims BSY

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Over 1,200 assigned for contact tracing in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Jul 8: Karnataka has drafted 1,246 government employees into the crucial task of contact tracing to fight the coronavirus pandemic, and they have been warned of action if they refuse to work.

These are Group A, B and C employees from various departments who have been asked to report to senior IAS officer V Manjula, who heads a task force on Covid-19 contact tracing.

In an order, Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar on Tuesday said additional human resources were required to strengthen contact tracing, which is “a very important part” of controlling the spread of Covid-19.
