Dist Cong concerned over low turnout for party's foundation day celebration

Mangalore, December 29: District congress leaders turned retrospective at the poor turnout of party members for the celebration of the 127th Foundation Day at the District Congress Office in Hamoankatta on Wednesday.

The Foundation Day ceremony organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) was witnessed by a motley regular office crowd. Sermonizing, DCC vice president Kodijal Ibrahim said that many people come with followers to influence leaders, in order to secure ticket for the local elections.

But once elected, the members have no time to participate in party functions, he regretted.

He attributed the reason behind the Congress losing its grip over its traditional bastion to party members and workers not taking any interest in party programmes.

AICC member P V Mohan said the Congress is relevant in country without its voters and workers' support. He also pointed out that thin audience was a dangerous trend and not good for a party which represents all sections of society without discrimination on caste, creed or religion.

DCC women wing leader Mamatha Gatty said the congress has to reach people with development projects initiated by the congress-led UPA government at the Centre. She said that the party faces a challenge on creating awareness on Communal Violence Bill, which is being wrongly interpreted by other parties.

Bengaluru, Jan 3: Three advocates were appointed additional judges of the Karnataka High Court.

A Law Ministry notification, issued here on Friday said Maralur Indrakumar Arun, Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh and Ravi Venkappa Hosmani have been appointed as additional judges of the high court on Thursday. The newly appointed Judges will continue in their post for a period of two years from the date they assume charge.

While the names of advocates Arun and Indiresh were recommended by the Collegium on March 25 last year the name of Advocate Hosmani was recommended by the Collegium on October 4.

Mangaluru, Mar 27: In the wake of mounting number of coronavirus positive cases in Dakshina Kannada and surrounding areas, the government has decided to fully shut down the coastal district on Saturday, March 28.

Announcing this today, district in charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary urged the people not to step out their homes at any cost for any reason as nothing would be available outside except the deadly coronavirus.

All grocery stores, food outlets and markets also are likely to remain closed. For last few days grocery shops remained open till noon. 

Dakshina Kannada today reported two fresh cases of Covid-19. So far the district witnessed seven positive cases and none of them are fully cured. Shockingly neighboring district of Kasargod today reported 34 new coronavirus positive cases on a single day.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: The condition of former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, is clinically stable and he is responding to COVID-19 treatment, the hospital authorities said on Friday.

"Leader of the opposition and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is clinically stable and responding to COVID-19 treatment. He is comfortable and his appetite has improved. Our team of experts will continue to monitor him closely," Manipal Hospital said in a health bulletin.

Siddaramaiah had informed on Twitter on August 4 that he tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted himself to a hospital.

Since then, he had been active on twitter and attacked the BS Yediyurappa government in Karnataka over their handling of COVID-19 and heavy rainfall situation.

Earlier on Friday morning, Siddaramaiah remembered Nobel laureate and poet Rabindranath Tagore on his death anniversary.

The former Chief Minister of Karnataka also condoled the demise of Karnataka State Wakf Board chairman Dr Mohammed Yusuf on Friday.
