Tension grips Udupi town as miscreants prevent Muslim tourists from entering Masjid

Udupi, December 30: A tense atmosphere prevailed in Kodavoor town of Udupi district on Friday after a group of miscreants belonging to a communal organisation disrupted the visit of Muslim tourists to a local masjid for prayers.

The miscreants had surrounded the Kalmath Jamia Masjid, at Pallijidda in Kodavoor to prevent a group of Muslim tourists from Gujarat.

According to local sources, as many as 20 tourists from Gujarat had come to Udupi to visit Malpe beach and other tourist spots in the coastal district.

They had planned to offer Friday prayers at Kalmath Jamia Masjid.

Meanwhile, local leaders of Sanhg Parviar have justified the act of miscreants alleging the tourists of being members of anti-social group.

Police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob. Udupi Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar after verifying the whereabouts of the tourists, asked them leave the place in their bus, sources said.

It can be mentioned that the managing committee of this Masjid has been accusing a local group belonging to a communal organisation of becoming a hurdle in building a new structure for the Masjid.

Bengaluru, May 3: Five more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 606, the state government said on Sunday.

The total number of cases includes, 25 deaths and 282 discharged.

"Five new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Karnataka from 2nd May, 5 pm to 3rd May, 12 noon; taking the total number of positive cases to 606 which includes 25 deaths and 282 discharges," the government stated.

According to the statement, out of the five cases, three have been reported from Kalaburagi and two have been identified from Mudhol.

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Former Minister and Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader has gone into self-quarantine after former MLC Ivan D’Souza tested positive for coronavirus. 

Mr D’Souza had met Mr Khader and many other Congress leaders a day before receiving his throat swab test results. 

Mr Khader announced on twitter: “Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect after receiving the news about #Covid_19 positive test of Former MLC Ivan D’Souza & his wife Dr Kavitha. Being COVID Incharge DK District taskforce committee, I am one among Ivan's primary contact.”

“I am going to discharge my duties from home for the next few days. You can reach out over phone at any point of time. I appeal to all my colleagues and friends who may have come in contact with us in the last few days to get tested for #Covid_19” he tweeted.

Bengaluru, Mar 18: Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka, taking the tally of infected persons in the state to 13, Health Minister B Sriramulu said on Wednesday.

A 56-year-old man, a resident of Bengaluru had returned to India from the US on March 6 while the second person is a 25-yr-old woman with a travel history to Spain.

"2 more COVID-19 cases have been registered in Bengaluru today, taking the total infected cases to 13. 56-year-old male, resident of Bengaluru returned from the USA on 6th March. Another 25-yr-old female has returned from Spain," Sriramulu said in a post on his Twitter account.

A total of 147 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday.
