Grand Pura Pravesha for Sode mutt seer

Udupi, January 2: Pura Pravesha, the marking of arrival of Sode Mutt pontiff Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji, after touring pilgrimage centers across the country was held here on Monday with all pomp.

Swamiji arrived at Jodukatte where he was given a warm reception headed by civic fathers, including district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, MLA Raghupathi Bhat, CMC President Kiran Kumar, Udupi Block Congress President Pramod Madhwaraj and others.

Form there Swamiji was escorted to car street of Sri Krishna Temple in a decorated Hamsa Vaahana.

He had darshan of lord Krishna from Kanakana Kindi. Then visited Chandra Moulishwara, Anantheshwara and Srikrishna Temples and offered prayers. Then he left to his Sode Mutt.

He was then felicitated at Car Street with the Civic Honour on behalf of Udupi City Municipal Council.

Tumkur, Jan 10: A five-year-old boy has been killed by a leopard in Gubi taluk of Tumkuru district in Karnataka.

The local police said today that the incident took place on Thursday evening when the boy was returning home along with his grandmother.

The leopard first attacked a cow and then the boy who was behind it. The feline dragged the body into the forest.

After a search operation by the forest officials, the body was found and handed over to the parents after post-mortem.

Bengaluru, Mar 29: Escoms have been directed neither to penalise its customers nor go for disconnection if one fails to pay the bill. The relief is applicable till June. However, the entire bill will have to be paid at the end of three months.

The revised power tariff, which was to be announced on April 1, has also been deferred.

A similar three-month relief has been given on rentals for APMC and BBMP shops.

Mangaluru, Feb 12: As many as 54 house surgeons from Kasturba Medical College (KMC) staged a protest near the casualty of the Wenlock Hospital on Wednesday over over non-payment of monthly stipend.

House surgeons, who have studied MBBS under the government quota, have not received their stipend from last 11 months. They have to get a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 during their one-year internship at the government hospital.

The protesting house surgeons alleged that their stipends have not been released despite Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s written order dated December 24.
