JD(S) protests suspension of police personnel for impartial work

Mangalore, January 7: The minority unit of Dakshina Kannada district Janata Dal (Secular) staged a protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Friday condemning the suspension and transfer of police personnel, whose impartial action against the miscreants for pelting stones at the Sullia police station had drawn the ire of Sangh Parivar and Bharatiya Janata Party.


Addressing the protesters, D M Aslam, president of minority unit, said that there is a need to create mass awareness about the anti-social activities and conspiracies of Sangh Parivar, which is at the helm of power in State.

“Their agenda is to divide the society and spread violence. The recent incidents of Sullia and Sindagi have again proved this truth. However no one can take action against them, as they are the rulers of the State”, he lamented.

“If those police personnel, who worked impartially and arrested the goons to maintain law and order in the society, deserve punishment in this State, what is the situation of a common man?”, he asked. “We should not forget that the incident had occurred in the native place of Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda”, he added.

If the government does not allow the policemen to take action against culprits, who hail from Sangh Parivar, then what is the need of such police force, he said adding that let RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat take charge as the Superintendent of Police of the district.

Lashing out at RSS and Sri Ram Sene for hoisting Pak flag with the intention of spreading violence in the society, JDS state Secretary M G Hegde suggested the Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat to wear Pakistani flag instead of khakhi shorts.

The protesters also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioner demanding the withdrawal of suspension and transfer order of Sullia police personnel and allow them to work impartially.

Karwar, Jun 3: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert, predicting thundershowers and heavy rainfall over north interior Karnataka, coastal Dakshina Kannada and Udupi over the next three days.

With Cyclone Nisarga hitting the Uttara Kannada coast on Tuesday,  parts of coastal Karnataka received heavy rainfall. Gusty winds tore through the coastal towns, as the sea too turned violent with rough waves smashing the shore.

The alert was issued with the advancement of Nisarga from east-central Arabian Sea to north Maharashtra, and adjoining south Gujarat coast. “Though it does not cover Karnataka, the range of cyclonic winds is very big and reaches north interior Karnataka also.

So an alert has been called out,” CS Patil, director in-charge, IMD, Bengaluru, said. The weather department has forecast a severe cyclonic storm and then a depression. Patil said formation of systems is a common factor before the onset of the monsoon and they help in its advancement.

“Cyclone Nisarga is helping in the quick advancement of the southwest monsoon to Karnataka, and the monsoon is likely to arrive before the scheduled date as conditions are favourable,” he added.

Udupi, Apr 25: Senior RSS leader H Somashekhar Bhatt received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday enquiring about his health.

Bhatt got emotional hearing the Prime Minister's voice at the other end, family sources said.

The Prime Minister called at 8.30 AM and began the conversation with 'Somashekharji' and spoke for about six minutes.

The 85-year-old veteran recalled how the Jana Sangh came to power in Udupi municipality under the leadership of V S Acharya in 1968 and about his association with the Sangh Parivar through the decades and his imprisonment during the Emergency.

Bhatt, former Udupi municipality president, later said it was a rare honour for him.

"I am very glad that PM Modi called and spoke to me. I shared the experience of meeting him at the Jaipur session.

Asked to take care of health and expressed concern," he said.

The Prime Minister has been calling senior functionaries of the party who worked for the Sangh Parivar in the time of adversities to build up the BJP in its present form and seeking advice from them.

He had also called in recent days former MLA Ram Bhat who was elected from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada and D H Shankar Murthy, who was former chairman of the state legislative council, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel tweeted.

Mangaluru, July 29: Justifying the transfer of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, district in-charge minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari has accused Mangaluru MLA U T Khader of politicizing the issue. 

The IAS officer was transferred by the Karnataka government on July 28, a day after a saffron activist issued a death threat against her on social media after she warned of legal action against the miscreants who attack cattle traders.

Condemning the development, Mr Khader had tweeted that the state government has punished the deputy commissioner instead of punishing the culprit, who issued death threat.

Responding to Mr Khader’s tweet, Mr Poojari said that the transfer of the officer was on administrative ground. “It is unfortunate that Khader politicized a transfer carried out by the government on administrative ground. This is not Khader’s time to protect any accused,” tweeted Mr Poojari. 

It is worth mentioning here that Mr Khader was the district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada before Mr Poojari taking over the position. 

Meanwhile, police has arrested a person in connection with the death threat against the IAS officer.
