Bijapur, January 7: The six people arrested in connection with the hoisting of a Pakistani flag in Sindagi town in Bijapur district on January 1 had hatched the plan a week ago, according to the police.

The special team of the district police on January 4 arrested Rakesh Siddaramaiah Math, president of the Sindagi town unit of the Sri Rama Sene, and members Mallangouda Vijaykumar Patil, Parashuram Ashok Wagmore, Rohit Ishwar Navi, Arun Wagmore and Sunil Madivalappa Agasar in connection with the incident.

People in Sindgi had shocked to witness Pakistan National Flag seen over Tahasildaar office on January 1

Preliminary interrogation has revealed that the plan to hoist the flag in front of the Sindagi tahsildar's office on January 1 was hatched a week ago and preparations, including stitching the flag, were done in the residence of Sunil Agasar, according to police sources.

On the night of December 31, all the accused had come to Bijapur to celebrate the New Year and returned to Sindagi town around 3 a.m. on motorcycles to allegedly hoist the flag. The police traced the accused based on the registration numbers of motorcycles provided by a Sindagi town resident.

On January 1, the accused gathered outside the tahsildar's office and invited Hindutva organisations to protest against the hoisting of the flag, according to police sources.

According to preliminary investigations, it is clear that the accused wanted to gain publicity by making it an issue, police sources said. Investigations are on to find the other persons involved.

'Ban sene'

Meanwhile, State general secretary of AHINDA S.M. Patil Ganihar has alleged that sene activists were corrupting the young minds by their provocative speeches and by disturbing communal harmony. The sene was encouraging youth to take up anti-social activities in the name of Hindutva. “Sene chief Pramod Muthalik should be arrested and the outfit banned,” he added.

Zakir Hussain, a businessman in Lal Bahadur Shastri Market, said the police should find out the hidden agenda behind the hoisting of the Pakistani flag.

“Organisations disturbing peace should be banned,” he added.
