Man suffers burns at AC factory, forum alleges negligence

Udupi, January 9: A delegation of Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike met the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi here seeking compensation and justice to a 23-year-old labourer who had suffered burns following an explosion in the factory where he was working.

Ashfaq, son of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Koteshwar in Kundapur had been working at Cooling Technique Refrigerator and Air Condition factory in BTM Layout in Bangalore. On December 19 Ashfaq along with four others were injured in an explosion in the factory.

Since Asfhaq had sustained severe burns he was admitted at the Victoria Hospital. Since the factory owners and management did not pay enough attention to the issue, he was brought to Udupi by his parents and admitted at the local hospital.

The apathy and negligent attitude of the factory owners compelled the injured labourer's parents to seek the help of Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike.

The delegation of the Vedike, led by Yogish Shetty Jeppu and convenor of the women's wing Jyotika Jain, met Dr. M.T. Reju and apprised him of the situation.

The delegation has requested the authorities to guarantee necessary compensation from the factory management. They have also demanded action against the factory management for their apathy towards the injured worker and also for not providing safety gears to the workers.

Nisar Inoli, Siraj Hussain, Nazeer Kundapur, among others, were part of the delegation.

Bengaluru, Jun 24: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa was all praise for a sixth standard student from Kallianpur in Udupi district for joining the fight against COVID-19 by stitching Face Masks with one hand for SSLC students writing examination beginning from Thursday.

Mr Yediyurappa took to Twitter and wrote, “Proud of this young COVID warrior Sindhuri. Her smile as she stitches that mask inspires all of us to go beyond our limitation and strengthens us to fight this battle together. God bless you!”

Sindhuri, daughter of Sudhir and Renuka is currently studying in the sixth standard in Mount Rosary school and Bulbul in Scouts and Guides as well.

Bengaluru, May 10: Karnataka on Sunday reported 59 new cases of coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in the state to 848, informed state health department.
Out of the total number of cases, 422 people have been discharged and 31 have died due to the infection in the state.
The health department further informed that six COVID-19 patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit.

Karwar, June 29: The additional sessions court, Sirsi town police station and office of the deputy superintendent of police in Uttara Kannada district were sealed on Sunday after an undertrial was found positive for Covid-19.

The undertrial, accused of stealing a bike, from Hubballi was arrested by Sirsi police and had initially tested negative. He was confirmed infected when his samples were tested the second time.

He was arrested by Dharwad police in connection with a bike theft case. During interrogation it was found that he had stolen bikes in Sirsi too. Sirsi police had brought him from Dharwad sub-jail for the interrogation and was produced in the court.

The accused was in Manipal jail for some time after he was convicted there for the bike theft. While bringing him to Sirsi the police had wore PPE kits.

When he was produced in the court the judge had reportedly directed the police test him for covid as he had some symptoms.

His swab was collected and sent to the lab. In the first test the result was negative but it was positive in another test. At that time he was in Sirsi sub-jail. 10 police officials who had come into his contact have been quarantined. The police station has been sealed down and the court will be closed down on Monday and Tuesday.

All the under trails who were kept with him in the sub-jail have been isolated and their swab has been sent for the testing.
