Siddaramaiah warns Govt. against introducing Gita in schools

Mangalore, January 9: Warning the BJP led state government against what he called 'anti-secular steps', leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah on Monday said that it was wrong to introduce the Bhagavad Gita in schools.

The Congress leader's statement comes a day after Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda's controversial announcement that the government was considering introducing the Bhagavad Gita in primary and secondary schools after seeking public opinion.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a review meeting of Congress workers in the city, Mr Siddaramaiah said such a move by State Government would affect the secular character of the education sector.

“Gita is a sacred book. I too respect it. However, making the teaching of the Bhagavad Gita compulsory in schools is an undemocratic and anti-secular move”, he said.

Mr Siddaramaiah also said that schools should be the centers secularism and not communalism.

Asked about the JD(S) remarks that he had joined Congress for not getting desired post in Deve Gowda led party, the former Deputy CM said let them solve their internal clashes before commenting on others.

Bengaluru, Feb 9: Six persons, including three Nigerian nationals, have been arrested for their involvement in a fake kidney racket, through which they duped over 300 people, police said on Sunday.

The case was cracked by a Special Investigating Team (SIT) headed by Banasawadi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Raviprasad. These people had duped scores of people, by misusing the name of a well known hospital located in Bengaluru.

New Delhi, Feb 3: BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde's swipe at Mahatma Gandhi has irked the top party leadership and he may be forced to apologise, party sources said on Monday.

A senior BJP leader said the Karnataka leader's comments were "condemnable" and the party leadership is upset with him.

"The party has conveyed its displeasure to him and asked him to take remedial measure. Any insult to Mahatma Gandhi is unacceptable," he said.

Hegde, a former Union minister, reportedly claimed at an event in Bangaluru that the entire freedom movement was staged with the consent and support of the British, and the independence movement led by Gandhi was a "drama".

He also wondered why the Father of the Nation was called 'Mahatma' (a great soul).

The party leader said the Lok Sabha MP is a "disciplined" member of the party and will do what he has been asked to.

Hegde, known for hardline Hindutva leanings, has a history of making controversial remarks.

They will not change their attitude, as they know that nobody can do any harm to them.

 

Therefore they will listen only to dire action what they deserve per the penal code. If required put him behind bars.

Bengaluru, Jan 18: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the "flag-bearer" of the Indian culture and tradition.

In his speech at an event organised by Vedanta Bharati here, Shah said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is touring across the globe as the flag bearer of the Indian culture and tradition." To buttress his point, the BJP National President said Modi took a holy dip in Ganga and attended Ganga Arati in Varanasi before taking oath as the Prime Minister.

It was for the first time that Modi sent red sander to Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal to perform special prayers on behalf of the government of India.

Shah also slammed the previous governments for their wrong interpretation of secularism, preventing them from honouring the best things of the country. "But after a long interval we have a Prime Minister who sends across the message that we have a lot to give to the world," Shah said.
