City police gear up for the smooth conduct of NYF

Mangalore, January 10: The police would make elaborate security arrangements to ensure the safety of participants and smooth conduct of 17th National Youth Festival which will be held here from January 12 to 16.

Giving details of heightened security arrangements for the five-day festival, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Tuesday said that more than 1,000 police personnel would be deployed in various places, where delegates and VIPs are put up, as well as manning railway and bus stations, and other places of public importance to ensure that the five-day festival goes off without any hitch.

He said that a central help desk would be setup for people to contact for all help and guidance all the time. Arrangements are also made at all the arrival places like KSRTC bus stand, railway station, airport and other important locations near the festival venues.

Mr Singh said police would be provided with the proper communication equipment. They are instructed to avoid untoward incidents and to be in co-ordination with the organisers regarding place of stay, place of events, food etc, he said.

He said that there would be round the clock police out-post. Police will restrict unauthorized entry in the premises and also carriage of unauthorized goods will be restricted.

The police will take care of total security of the delegates with special care to female delegates, he guaranteed.

The Commissioner also said that all sub committees and nodal officers of the festival organizing committee should keep in constant touch with police department and pass on information regarding programmes.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: The results of Karnataka Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations will be announced on Monday, August 10.

Primary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said, "The results will be announced at about 3 pm on August 10."

This year, over 8.50 lakh students appeared for the exams amidst the Covid-19 pandemic fear across the state.

The department conducted the exams successfully despite resistance from various quarters and pressure to postpone the exams.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: State officials will conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) exam as per the instructions given by the state high court, said Karnataka deputy chief minister CN Ashwathnarayan on Tuesday.

"Officials have informed that they are all set to conduct exams on July 30 and 31. We will put this matter in front of the high court. As per the instructions of the high court, we will move forward," said Ashwathnarayan.

This comes after Karnataka High court asked the state government to reconsider the decision of conducting the CET exam.

"...I had called an emergency meeting with district collectors, officials of education, transport, health, police department. And, I took information about the preparedness for conducting the CET exam," he added.

Karnataka CET Exam is a state-level entrance exam organised for providing admissions in Engineering, Pharmacy, B Pharma and other courses offered by colleges and institutions located in the state.

Mangaluru, Apr 25: Heavy rain lashed Mangaluru and surrounding areas on Saturday, providing the people respite from the sweltering heat, which they have been experiencing for the last few weeks. 

The rain, which started around 10.30 pm on Friday, lashed heavily after 2 am. Later, there was drizzle for sometime before it stopped raining around 8 am. 

People were seen walking towards the market to purchase essential commodities holding an umbrella and wearing a raincoat.
