Mangalore girl excels in CAT-2011

Mangalore, January 13: Akansha Baliga, a Mangalorean recorded a top score of 99.7 percentile in the results of the Common Aptitude Test (CAT), conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management.

According to a press release, around 1.85 lakh MBA aspirants took the test over a 20-day testing window across 36 cities from mid-October. Out of these, the aspirational 100 percentile was managed by just nine students, while 1,800 students crossed the 99 percentile barrier. The Indian Institutes of Management published the results of CAT 2011 on their website on Wednesday, January 11.

Akansha Baliga is doing her final year engineering in Electronics & Communication at PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore and is a former student of St. Agnes School and St. Aloysius College, Mangalore.

Following her very high scoring, Akansha has now been shortlisted for admission to the country's best management institutions including IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta.

CAT scores are accepted by the 13 IIMs, the country's premier institutes for management studies, and several others, including the management studies departments in the National Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institutes of Technology.

Akansha Baliga is the daughter of the eminent pediatrician Dr. B. Shantharam Baliga, Professor & Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore and Dr. Shrikala Baliga, Professor & Head of the Department of Microbiology, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore

Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week. 

The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.

Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.

Mangaluru, May 27: The Dakshina Kannada PU College Principals' Association on Wednesday appealed to the authorities to postpone the evaluation of PUC II answer scripts, as the Novel Coronavirus was still active and there was all possibility of the infection spreading.

Speaking to reporters here, Association President Umesh Karkera said, ''It is our duty to evaluate the answer scripts. But amid the fear of COVID-19 and lockdown, evaluators are not able to reach the valuation Centre to take up the work.

''The department of pre-university education has asked the Deputy Chief Examiners and the Assistant Examiners to reach the venue on May 27 and 29, respectively, to take up the evaluation work.

Udupi, Apr 4: District Commissioner Jagadeesh has warned that the vehicles of people who break lockdown norms will be seized.
 
Addressing the media, he said, “People who want to buy essential items are allowed come out of the house between 1100 hrs and 1900 hrs, but we have noticed that some are unnecessarily coming out and blocking the roads. If this continues, vehicles of such people will be seized.”
 
No new COVID-19 positive cases were reported since Friday Udupi district.
