Kerala varsity to host world seminar on Hadith

Thiruvananthapuram, January 15: Kerala University will be hosting a five—day international seminar on Hadith from February 14 to be attended by leading Islamic scholars and academics from various countries.

The seminar, being organised by the Arabic Department of the University, will focus on the language, philosophy and teachings of Hadith, which records the biography, history and the life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

“Hadith literature is the most important source which records the biography, history and the life of the Prophet. As the Quran has been revealed in literary Arabic, the language of the Hadith too is highly literary Arabic,” a website on the seminar, said.

It will also focus on the language, syntax, philosophy and teachings of Hadith.

More than 100 scholars from countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan and Malaysia are expected to turn up for the event.

Mangaluru, Jun 16: Dakshina Kannada today reported 79 fresh covid-19 cases, taking the total infections in the coastal district to 370.

Out of the 79 positive cases, 75 persons had returned from Saudi Arabia. All of them have been shifted to the designated COVID hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

As many as 11 persons today discharged from the hospital taking the total number of discharges to 145. There are 217 active cases in the district. 

Udupi district today reported 7 new covid cases taking the total to 1035. Among them 817 have discharged from the hospitals including today’s 81. The number of active cases is 217.

Bengaluru, Jan 27: Leaders cutting across political parties in Karnataka condoled the demise of former minister Amarnath Shetty, who passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa expressed “shock” over the death of the former minister. “May his soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his family members,” tweeted CM’s official Twitter handle.

Mangaluru, Mar 24: Amidst uncertainty and fear in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, the prices of vegetables and fruits have shot up in the coastal city of Mangaluru.

Fearing complete closure of shops, people arrived at the market to purchase vegetables in large numbers today morning.

Encashing the situation, the traders too increased the prices of vegetables and fruits.

Tomatoes that were sold for Rs 15 to 20 per kg in the last few days were sold at Rs 40 to 60 per kg. 

Long yard beans were sold at Rs 50 per kg while okra fetched Rs 60 per kg in the market. Onions were sold at Rs 40 to Rs 60 per kg.

Owing to rumours, the price of chicken was reduced to Rs 50 per kg. On Monday, it had increased to Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg.
