Defiant Sugunendra threatens with hunger strike

suguUdupi, January 15: Putthige Mutt pontiff Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, who was prohibited from the Paraya celebrations- 2012 of Sode Mutt, on Sunday, announced to sit on a one-day hunger strike from 9 am of Jan 17, infront of Sri Madhwacharya Sannidhana, Sri Anantheshwara Temple, in Car Street, Udupi.

Speaking to media persons Putthige seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji said that he would continue his fasting till 5 am of January 18, on which day Sode Mutt pontiff Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji will ascend the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetah in the early hours at 6 am. He said said that his fasting would be to demand Pejawar seer to withdraw the prohibition being observed by rest of the Ashta Mutts, against his mutt.

He said that Pejawar Mutt pontiff Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji and representatives of Sri Raghvendra Mutt, Manthralaya, Sri Suyameendra Theertha and Rajagopalacharya. Putthige seer said that Pejawar had not been putting his wholehearted efforts, to solve the crysis. It seems Pejawar did not have a will to solve the issue. If not he should have put the same level of efforts put during his (Putthige) third Paryaya.

Pejawar to prevent him from ascending the sarvajna peetah. Pejawar had printed handbills, put up protests, made his followers go to courts, pressurised Uttaradi Mutt Swamiji to prevent me from ascending the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetah., Putthige seer said.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Congress MLA Priyank Kharge has questioned the Karnataka government on the alleged breakdown of oxygen in the intensive care unit (ICU) at ESIC hospital in Kalaburagi, saying he had got complaints that eight persons who were on ventilators had died.

He asked the government if it is "deliberately" hiding something about the patients that were admitted in ESIC.

"I have got complaints that eight people who were on ventilators are dead in ESIC Kalaburagi because there was oxygen breakdown in ICU. ESIC has not been admitting patients as the issue has not been resolved. Nobody is confirming or denying it. Is the Government deliberately hiding something?" he asked.
Kharge also accused the government of not having adequate facilities to combat COVID-19 in different parts of the state.

"I hope I am wrong, but if it is a fact, this ascertains that the administration has lost control over Corona pandemic in the district. No addition testing centre. No beds are available. PPE Kits and medical waste is thrown in Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS)," he added.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 67420 COVID-19 cases in the state.

Mangaluru, May 27: Karnataka’s twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi today reported 11 and 9 fresh covid-19 cases respectively.

In Dakshina Kannada the covid-19 patients include seven women and four men who had recently come from Maharashtra.

One of the patients is a 3-year-old child. Others are girls aged 11 and 17, women aged 36, 37, 45, 59 and men aged 22, 35, 39 and 46.

All of them have been shifted to covid-19 hospital from different institutional quarantine centres. 

In Udupi too all the nine people – six men, a boy, and two women -  had come from Maharashtra a few days ago.

Bengaluru, May 17: Karnataka on Sunday extended lockdown for two days until midnight of Tuesday, May 19. Earlier today, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra extended the lockdown till May 31. The state government said that the guidelines and norms as followed during Coronavirus Lockdown 3 will remain in place till 19th midnight or till further notice.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in Karnataka rose to 1,146 on Saturday. With 37 deaths and 497 discharges, there are 611 active corona cases in the state. 

Out of 54 new cases, twentytwo are from Mandya, ten from Kalaburagi, six from Hassan, four from Dharwad, three each from Yadgir and Kolar, two each from Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga, and one each from Udupi and Vijayapura.
