NYF-2012: Karnataka bags eight prizes in competitive events

Mangalore, January 16: Youths of Karnataka, the host State of the 17th edition of National Youth Festival, have shined in various competitive events organized as part of the annual assembly of the youth. The State has bagged first prizes in events such as Folk Song, Kuchipudi, Classical Vocal Hindustani and Sitar.

The State also bagged second prizes in events like Classical Dance-Bharathanatyam, Classical Vocal Carnatic and third prizes in Harmonium (Light) and Tabla.

Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda conferred awards consisting of cash prize, medal and citation to winners of the various competitive events.

Following is the list of winners;

1. Folk Dance: Manipur (First), Assam (Second) and Orissa (Third)

2. Folk Song: Karnataka (First), Madhya Pradesh (Second) and Maharastra (Third)

3. One-Act Play: Kerala and Haryana (First), Punjab and Orissa (Second), Andhra Pradesh and Bihar (Third)

4. Classical Dance-Manipuri: Manipur (First), West Bengal (Second) and Assam (Third)

5. Classical Dance-Bharathanatyam: Kerala (First), Karnataka (Second), West Bengal (Third)

6. Classical Dance- Kathak: Tripura (First), Madhya Pradesh (Second), West Bengal (Third)

7. Classical Dance- Kuchipudi: Karnataka (First), Kerala (Second), Andhra Pradesh (Third)

8. Classical Dance- Odissi: Delhi (First), Orissa (Second) and Madhya Pradesh (Third)

9. Classical Vocal Hindustani: Karnataka (First), Chattisgarh (Second), West Bengal (Third)

10. Classical Vocal Carnatic: Delhi (First), Karnataka (Second) Kerala (Third)

11. Harmonium (Light): Goa (First), Haryana (Second), Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka (Third)

12. Elocution: Delhi (First), Chhattisgarh (Second), Bihar (Third)

13. Tabla: West Bengal (First), Punjab (Second), Karnataka (Third)

14. Mridangam: Kerala (First), Maharashtra (Second), Punjab (Third)

15. Flute: West Bengal (First), Chhattisgarh (Second) and Maharashtra (Third)

Mangaluru, Mar 1: Noted Konkani writer and theater personality Richard John Pais died on Sunday after a brief illness, family sources said.

He was 51. He is survived by wife and two children.

Known in literary circles as ‘RJP’, his short stories, satirical writings, and poems were very popular.

Belagavi, 13: In a shocking development, Karnataka has reported its first COVID-19 relapse with a 50-year-old Tablighi Jamaat convention attendee in Belagavi testing positive days after being discharged.

The State health officials confirmed that P-298 from Kudachi, who had recovered and was discharged, has suffered a relapse. He has been re-admitted to a designated hospital in Belagavi.

The patient was initially admitted on April 15 and recovered, testing negative twice on April 30 and May 1. The tests were done at the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Bengaluru, and the National Institute of Traditional Medicine (NITM), Belagavi.

Despite recovering, his treatment continued in the ICU for other comorbidities, especially cardiac issues. He was discharged on May 4 and quarantined at an institutional facility in Kudachi.

However, he developed symptoms again and was tested for COVID-19 again on May 5 at NITM, Belagavi. The result came back positive. He was re-admitted to a hospital, and on May 6 a second test was done at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences. Again, he tested positive.

Hubballi, May 14: South Western Railway (SWR) has so far ferried about 54,000 passengers, including migrant workers, students and stranded people to 11 states to reach their home towns by Shramik Special trains.

So far 40 Shramik Specials were run one each from Kabakaputtur in Mysuru and Hubballi and remaining 38 from Chikkabanavara/Malur from Bengaluru area. About 54,000 passengers were ferried to different parts of the country. Maximum Shramik Specials trains train services were run to Lucknow (9) and Danapur (7).

Shramik Specials were run to Bihar (Bakora, Danapur, Baruni, Darbhanga), West Bengal (Purila, Bankura, New Jalpaiguri), Jharkhand (Hatia, Barkakana), Rajasthan (Jaipur, Udaipur), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Gorakhpur), Orissa (Bhubaneswar), Madhya Pradesh (Gwalior), Uttarakhand (Haridwar), Himachal Pradesh (Una), Tripura (Agartala) and Jammu and Kashmir (Udhampur).

SWR is transporting passengers to their destination as per the demand of the State Government with proper protocol and the receiving State Government is ready to accept them.
