Dist. Cong to hold protest against Pak flag

Mangalore, January 17: Dakshina Kannada District Congress committee (DCC) has urged the people to understand the conspiracies of communal forces to divide the society, and teach them an unforgettable lesson in the future.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday DCC president and Bantwal MLA B Ramanath Rai said that recent incident of hoisting of Pakistani national flag by miscreants at the office of Tahsildar in Sindagi, has laid bare the true hypocritical face of communal outfits, which portray themselves as patriotic organisations.

He also urged the Government to order a high level probe into the issue of Pak flag hoisting as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Sri Ram Sene have blamed each other for the shameless act. “We want to know the truth”, he said.

He also said that DCC is going to hold a protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner Commissioner's office in the city on Friday, January 21 condemning the Sindagi incident.

'Police Atrocity'

Mr Rai also condemned the alleged police atrocity on school children in Bajpe police station limits and demanded the Mangalore City Police Commissioner to take immediate action against the police inspector and personnel, who allegedly canned the students.

Mulky-Moodbidri MLA Abhay Chnadra Jain, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Ivan D'Souza and former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty were present at the news conference.

Bengaluru, Aug 4 : Without mentioning any party leader's name, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Monday appealed to Congress workers not to make any "defamatory statement" against any political leader on social media platforms.

Taking to Twitter, Shivakumar wrote, "I appeal to Congress workers not to make defamatory statements against any political leader, on matters of health and other issues on social media platforms. It is not in our culture to wish bad for others. Congress is a party that exemplifies brotherhood and humanity."

His statement comes days after Rajya Sabha MP and AICC in-charge for Gujarat, Rajiv Satav comment where he suggested that introspection in the party should begin from the time of the United Progressive Alliance -II government.

Later, Satav took to Twitter to clarify his remarks at Thursday's meeting of the party's Upper House MPs. Satav, through a series of tweets on Saturday, said he was not comfortable discussing what goes on inside party meetings in forums outside.

In the wake of the bomb found at Mangalore Airport on Monday morning, the team visited the railway station as a precautionary measure.

Bengaluru, June 23: A senior IAS officer allegedly, who had faced arrest in connection with I Monetary Advice (IMA) scam, today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in the city. 

The deceased is BM Vijay Shankar. He had been arrested by special investigation team (SIT) in the I Monetary Advice (IMA) case when he was deputy commissioner (DC) Urban Bengaluru. 

He had spent few days in the jail over his alleged involvement in the IMA scam and was released on bail. The IMA case is currently being probed by Central Bureau of Investigation.

Shankar was staying in Jayanagar near Ashoka Pillar along with his family members.

Shankar was accused of taking Rs 1.5 crore to approve a report on financial irregularities, and was accused of giving a clean chit to the main accused of IMA scam, Mohammed Mansoor Khan.

The incident came to light around 8 pm. It is alleged that Shankar ended his life around 7.00 pm, when he was alone in the house. Shankar was said to be under severe depression after his name surfaced in the scam, and his subsequent arrest.

However, the exact reason for his extreme step is yet to be identified. Tilak Nagar police have taken up the case of mysterious death under CrPc and are probing further. As of now the police officials have not found any death note. A senior officer said: "once we finish the procedures of investigating the spot his body will be shifted to Victoria hospital for post mortem. The report will find out exact cause of his death".

Police commissioner Bhaskar Rao said: "We have taken up the case of unnatural death with regard to Vijay Shankar's death. Further probe will reveal more details about it".
