M V Shetty Memorial cricket tourney inaugurated

Mangalore, January 17: The 17th Dr M V Shetty Memorial inter physiotherapy colleges cricket tournament for boys and girls organized by Dr M V Shetty College Of Physiotherapy was inaugurated at NMPT ground, Panambur, here on Tuesday.

Ten boys' teams and seven girls' teams are participating in this state level tournament. The participating teams are from across Karnataka including Mangalore, Bangalore, Mysore, Manipal and Moodbidri.

DIG R M Sharma, T M Commander of Coast Guard inaugurated the tournament. Dr M Ramgopal Shetty, Founder Secretary DR M V Shetty Memorial Trust presided over the event. National Women Swimming team physiotherapist Dr Poornima Raman was the guest of honour.

Congratulating the college for conducting the tournament for the past 16 years, DIG Sharma stressed on the importance given only to academics and not sports. He inspired the players by saying “All that happens, happens for good”.

Dr. Poornima Raman in her address said that an individual requires passion to be successful. The vote of thanks was given by physical director of the institute Manohar M.

The inaugural match was played between chief guest DIG R N Sharma and Dr M R Shetty both taking a shot at batting and bowling. This was followed by a match between Captains XI and Staff XI of the colleges. The cricket tournament will be for two days.

Udupi, Feb 11: In a tragic incident, a 62-year-old man from Chennai died of drowning in Sri Krishna Mutt’s Madhwa Sarovar (pond) during the wee hours of Tuesday.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Capt G Sridharan.

It is suspected that Sridharan accidentally fell into the holy pond while taking a bath. The incident is said to have occurred around 4 a.m.

Mangaluru, Jun 29: An elderly woman who was tested positive for coronavirus, breathed her last at the designated covid hospital in the city today.

The deceased was a 60-year-old resident of Ullal.

According to sources, the woman, was getting treated for ailments related to liver and heart.

Udupi, Jan 7: Eshapriya Teertha Swamiji, who was appointed as the junior Swamiji of Admar Math, would be ascending the 'Paryaya Peeta' for the first time on January 18, Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Admar Math said.

Speaking to the media at Admar Moola Math at Admar near Padubidri on Monday night Vishwapriya Teertha Swamiji of Admar Math said, 'I had performed my first Paryaya in 1988-90 with the help of Shri Vishwapriya Teertharu.

'The second Paryaya was performed independently by the order of Shri Vibudhesha Teertharu in 2004-06.
