MAGIC

Mangalore, January 18: Popular illusionist and noted magician Kudroli Ganesh's 'Vismaya Magic Foundation' was inaugurated in a magical way on Wednesday evening.

Mr Ganesh made Edupreneur Dr Mohan Alva to inaugurate his foundation through a magical way a Town Hall in the city. He showed the audience an empty box and then later brought out of it a lamp which was lit by the chief guests. He also brought out garlands which were given to each of the guests. He also brought out a photo frame with an image of the foundation's logo and revealed it through magic.

Dr Alva said, Ganesh keeps the Indian and local culture in the background while presenting his magic. “Vedas have described this as the 64th art form. His intentions are good and research is something which many fields lack. I hope Kudroli Ganesh encourages research through his foundation and keeps local culture in mind”, he said.

This Foundation must spread the essence of magic. It must be done like a social service without expecting money. All fields need training and so does magic, he said.

In his introductory remarks Kudroli Ganesh said, “In 1999 we were a small team doing magic. I was working with 'Mungaru' Kannada daily newspaper and had a hobby team which was waiting to explore the wonders of magic. Our country is filled with magic talents and we also have had difficulties in making this foundation come to existence. Since 12 years I have been doing magic and now I keep informed through the internet about the various developments in the field. I have thought of making a contribution through this Foundation.

“In the past art was limited only to temples. Magic has come a long way since then. International magicians showcase their talents very well. We, as Indians, are little hesitant to showcase our originality”, he said.

He also said that his idea was to train youngsters and to guide future magicians.

Mangalore University Registrar Prof Chinappa Gowda in his address, appreciating Mr Ganesh said the latter makes his show feel like a 'Jatre' every time. “He includes folk art and that is creative about him. Not every magician is like him”, he said.

“This art needs science. Talent and secrets must be kept in this trade. Magic can be made to seem like a theatre and Kudroli Ganesh is good at it, while also spotting new talent,” he said.

Delivering his presidential address, Bantwal MLA B Ramanath Rai said, magic takes man into an illusive world. “We sometimes think when the secrets of each act will be revealed. One of my personal secrets is that when I was made to disappear by same magician a few years ago”, he said.

He said that mixing local flavor in magic acts is Ganesh's speciality. “Art has so much power that we feel happy when magic acts are performed on stage”, he said.

The evening also saw magic performances of two little girls aged 5 and 3 years old. Later Kudroli Ganesh performed his act.

President of Mangala Magic Circle Swarna Sunder, MLC Ganesh Karnik and Industrialist Satish Baikampady were also present.

Bengaluru/Ballari, Jan 7: Former minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan of the Congress set a one-week deadline for the BJP government on Monday to arrest Ballari City BJP legislator G Somashekhara Reddy for his recent speech warning Muslims of dire consequences if they continue to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Police have already booked Reddy, younger brother of tainted mining baron G Janardhan Reddy, under section 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) of the Indian Penal Code.

However, Khan took the fight to Reddy a step further. “If the government fails to arrest Reddy by January 13, I will stage a dharna outside his house in Ballari, come what may. Let them do whatever they want,” Khan told reporters in Bengaluru.

In his speech at a pro-CAA rally organized by BJP workers and ABVP activists in Ballari, the BJP legislator had said, “We [Hindus] are 83% and they [Muslims] are 17% and if we take law into hands, you know what will happen.”

Khan said on Monday, “I challenge Reddy, the coward, to unsheathe his sword and cut me down first. It is absolutely shameful for a legislator to speak such things against a particular community. Why is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who often says Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, silent?”

On his part, Reddy on Monday said he stood by what he said. “What I meant was you Muslims should not get swayed by CAA protests and damage public property. We [Hindus] are sons of the same mother and live peacefully. However, they [Muslims] should not test our [Hindu] patience. I stick by my words 100%,” he said.

A delegation of the Ballari district Congress unit also submitted an appeal to the deputy commissioner, inspector general of police and superintendent of police on Monday to arrest Reddy for his provocative speech.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: The Karnataka State Board of AUQAF has ordered that management committees at Muslim Khabarastans, shall not refuse burial to Muslims died due to COVID-19.

"...in exercise the powers conferred under Waqf Act 1995, it is hereby ordered that management Committees/Muthawallies/Administrators responsible for the management of Muslim Khabarastans in the state of Karnataka irrespective of registered or unregistered in the Waqf, shall not refuse the burial of Muslims died due to COVID-19 pandemic," read an order from the Karnataka State Board of AUQAF on Thursday.

"They shall co-operate with all the Nodal Officers designated for this purpose regarding the decent burial. Non co-operation or refusal on the part of the management will be construed as an insult committed to the deceased. Any violation of the above order will attract the punitive provision of Indian Penal Code and removal from the management as per the provisions of the Waqf Act 1995," the order read.

It further said that the Waqf Officers, District Wakf Advisory Committees of the state, shall ensure the adherence of this order, and circulate the same to all the Khabarastan managements, registered or unregistered in the state.

"No further deliberation in this regard is solicited except compliance of the order in letter and spirit. Any dereliction in this regard will be viewed seriously," it read.

Giving a background on the issue of burial of COVID-19 deceased, the order read, "It is observed that, number of deaths are being occurred in various Districts of Karnataka, due to COVID-19 pandemic and it is reported that, some of the management committees of Khabarastan, are not cooperating to bury the dead bodies of COVID-19."

"A decent burial is a right of the dead person" as per the law of the land and the Islamic jurisprudence. It is needless to emphasize the importance of burial of Muslim dead bodies in Shariah. The dead body of a Muslim is treated with the utmost respect by the Ummah, joining in the funeral (Tadfeen), participating in the Namaz-e-Janaza and the burial are considered as Farz-e-Kifaya in Muslim law. According to the tradition of Islam, the person who participates in the funeral is entitled to Mountain sized reward (Sawaab)," the order read.

As per the order, the board, in its earlier circular had also cautioned the management of Waqf institutions and Khabarastan which were reluctant to allow the decent burial in the Khabarastan would be punished under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and the punitive provisions of the Waqf Act 1995 as well.

"The District Magistrates and the Superintendent of Police in the districts have been requested to prosecute the erring management committees who are responsible for non co-operation in this regard. Hence, the following order," it added.
