Protesters suspect 'influential hands' behind Panjimogaru double murder

Mangalore, January 20: “The unsolved Panjimogaru double murder case creates an impression that some influential people of the region might have involved in this barbarous crime” said Muneer Katipalla, State unit vice-president of Democratic Youth Federation of India.

He was addressing a protest rally organized by the local unit of DYFI on Friday in front of the office of District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar located at Mangalore City Corporation building here, in order to exert pressure on the government to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Dozens of residents of Panjimogaru, where a 35-year-old housewife Razia and her daughter 8-year-old daughter Fatima Zuha were murdered in broad day light on June 28, 2011, took part in the protest displaying black flags against Mr Palemar.

Mr Katipalla said that neither the elected representatives nor the police bothered about the issue. “Not a single elected representative so far visited the family members of the victims to assure them that the culprits will be arrested”, he said.

He also threated to hold protest in front of Chief Minister's office if the police and elected representatives continued to be negligent towards this case.

Local leaders of DYFI Imthiaz B K, Dayanand Shetty, and Anil D'Souza were present among others.

Karnataka to decide on city corporation election soon

Belagavi, Mar 7: Karnataka Urban Development Minister B A Basavaraj on Saturday said that government would a take decision very soon regarding conducting city corporations election in the state.

Speaking with the media after review meeting at Belagavi city corporation (BCC) here he further said that delimitation exercise of the wards has to be done followed by reservations.

The minister stated that discussions would be held with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and would arrive at a decision to conduct the election in about a month’s time.

Need a law to shoot at sight those raising anti-India slogans: B C Patil

Bengaluru, Mar 2: Karnataka Minister BC Patil on Monday repeated his earlier statements that he will approach the Centre to bring a law to "shoot at sight" anyone who raises anti-India slogans.

"I am not going back on my statement as I have not said anything wrong. I had said that I will ask the central government to bring a law to shoot at sight those who shout slogans against India. Nowadays it has become a fashion for some youths to get popularity this way which spoils the country and patriotism," Patil told reporters here.

"There is nothing wrong in asking for a law. I have not said that I will myself shoot someone who shouts slogans against India. If the same thing happens in Pakistan, they will be beheaded. But we are not so brutal, we book a case and send them to judicial custody," he added.

Patil also said that there was no need for holding discussions over the amended Citizenship Act, but added that the ruling BJP will defend it if the opposition raises a stir in the state Assembly.

The budget session of the Karnataka Assembly began on Monday.

Former health minister urges Karnataka gov't to chalk out comprehensive test plan for COVID-19

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Former Karnataka Health minister and senior Congress leader Dr H C Mahadevappa on Saturday urged the state government to chalk out a comprehensive plan to conduct tests among the vulnerable sections in the society to impede the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Mahadevappa, felt that only restricting people to remain indoors will not suffice to tackle the spread of the contagious disease he said that "There needs to step up testing the people especially belonging to the vulnerable sections of the society".

Maintaining that the COVID-19 disease, which has progressed itself as a pandemic, across the globe, former Health Minister said that "there is also a need to fight the menace with multiple dimension, as it has potential to cause damage not only the social life of the people but also their livelihood".
