Mangalore, January 23: The Congress and Janta Dal (S) have demanded the banishment of senior RSS leader Kallaka Prabhakar Bhat from coastal Karnataka.

The demand comes following Sunday's Hindu Samajotsava and in Uppinangady, where Mr Bhat delivered a communally provocative speech threatening to kill Muslim youths.

Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee president B Ramanath Rai, holding State Government responsible for the communal tension in Uppinangady, said that police should not allow Mr Bhat to repeat his wrongdoings. “Such people should be put behind bars”, he said.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, President of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Minority Cell BA Mohiuddin Bava said that Bhat's speech is part of the ruling BJP's conspiracies to retain Dakshina Kannada as its stronghold. “The BJP uses Mr Bhat as a means to divide people of Dakshina Kannada and instigate hatred and violence between communities”, he said.

He also demanded that Mr Bhat should be arrested and banished for his provocative speeches.

JD(S) minorities' cell president D M Aslam, in a statement, said that Kalladka Bhat should be banished. “If he continues to remain here, he will continue to instigate communal violence. He has a right to speak, but, his right should not be at the cost of other's rights to exist” he said.

JD(S) Udupi district President Deviprasad Shetty too urged the district administrations and police units of twin districts to take stringent action against Mr Bhat and banish him from the region forever.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday termed as 'disturbing' the violent clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Galwan Valley and said the government should offer a clearer picture to the nation on the border issue.

He sought to know as to how Indian soldiers lost their lives during a de-escalation process and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh should come out with a clearer picture.

"Reports coming from #GalwanValley are disturbing. Why did our soldiers lose their lives during a de-escalation process? In national interest, the PM and RM should offer a clearer picture to the nation on the border issue with the Chinese. #LADAKHSTANDOFF," Gowda tweeted. An Indian Army officer and two soldiers were killed during the confrontation with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh on Monday night, the first such incident in the last 45 years that reflected massive escalation in the five- week border row.

The Army said India lost an officer and two soldiers during the violent face-off, while there were casualties on the Chinese side as well.
