Mangalore, January 25: Condemning the recent police atrocity on school children and a Gram Panchayat president by Bajpe police, the Bajpe Muslim Okkuta and other progressive organisations on Monday staged a protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner, here.

Addressing the protestors, District Congress Committee President Ramanath Rai said that the police act of resorting to lathi charge on school children and Bajpe Gram Panchayat President Shahul Hameed for staging a protest against the PWD's action to remove the humps in front of Ansar English Medium School, is condemnable.

“Police resorted to lathi-charge at an elected representative when he tried to solve the problems within his limits. The incident was an attempt to disrupt peace and communal harmony in the region. It was an attempt to divide the society for getting political mileage,” he said.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain urged the State government to suspend Bajpe Police Inspector for his alleged action against the school kids and public.

“The lathi-charge at Bajpe was politically motivated,” said Jain.

KPCC General Secretary Ivan D'Souza said that the assault on protestors for protesting against the government is on rise in the recent years in Dakshina Kannada district.

“Those who protest against the government are suppressed using the police force in the State. It is a shame that we have a government which supports the communal forces in the district. Speed breaker was necessary as a school and a masjid was situated in the said vicinity. The assault on Gram Panchayat President was an insult to the elected representative,” said D'Souza demanding suspension of the Police Inspector.

The protestors who had gathered in large numbers shouted slogans against the Bajpe police station inspector and urged the authorities to initiate action against him. Members from PFI, DYFI and others were present.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the protestors said that the police should have protected the interest of the public by installing speed breakers. Instead of protecting the interest of the people, the police acted like dictators.

Bengaluru, Feb 17: Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Monday demanded that forest minister Anand Singh should either be expelled from the Cabinet or assigned a different portfolio.

This comes amid a number of cases, pending against Singh, including those under the Karnataka Forest Act.

"How can we expect justice from Anand Singh who has been made forest minister and is accused of (illegal mining)? We demand that he should either be dropped out of the state Cabinet or at least his portfolio be changed," Siddaramaiah told media.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa allocated portfolios to the 10 newly inducted ministers in his Cabinet.

As part of state Cabinet's expansion, 10 MLAs including Ramesh Jarkiholi, Anand Singh, K Sudhakar, and BA Basavaraja took oath as ministers at Raj Bhawan in Bengaluru on February 6.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 18: Bindhu Sampath, the mother of Nimisha alias Fathima who travelled from Kerala to Afghanistan to join the Islamic State (IS), has sought the Central government's help to bring her daughter back to India.

"I saw a video of my daughter in which she was requesting her return to India. She has realised that India is her country, not Afghanistan. She is scared that she'll be put in jail over there. Responding to my mail, the Afghanistan government has said that the procedure will take time," said Bindhu Sampath.

"I believe in Indian laws. Let her be questioned and realise what is good or bad. I am waiting for the Central government's confirmation on the matter," added Sampath.

Around four years back, a team of 21 members which consisted of couples and children went to Syria from Kerala to join ISIS and lead an Islamic life. After they left, police registered a case against them, which has been handled by the National Investigation Agency.

Shivamogga, Aug 9: Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi on Saturday virtually inaugurated Malgudi Museum at Arasalu in Karantaka's Shivamogga.

The old station building at Arasalu has been converted into museum.
BJP MP from Shivamogga BY Raghavendra said that the old station building at Arasalu has been renovated keeping with 'Malgudi' theme in mind.

"It is a tribute to the makers of the popular television serial 'Malgudi Days' as the station features predominantly in the episodes which broadcast on Doordarshan in the 1980s," he said.

The museum has been designed by a famous artist John Devraj, who was the part of the serial Malgudi Days. The Mysore Divisional Railway funded the museum.

"The approach road and station area wear a new transformed look. The innovative idea of having a tea-shop in a narrow gauge coach at Arasalu station adds charm to the green surroundings," the MP said.

"Popular and internationally acclaimed serial Malgudi Days was shot here in Arasalu. The SWR Mysore division manager Aparna Garg helped to transform the station to fictional village Malgudi," he added.

The museum is about 30 km from Shivamogga city. It has steam engines and bogies besides collections of photographs hanging on the wall taken during the time of shooting for Malgudi Days.
