Govt proposes to develop villages near Kaiga nuclear plant

Karwar, January 27: The Karnataka government has prepared a proposal for upgrading the infrastructure facilities in villages close to the Kaiga Atomic Power Plant in Uttar Kannada district. The Karnataka government has informed the NDMA about its proposal.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a unit under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, had carried out mock exercises in association with different state governments at all nuclear installations to assess the preparedness of various agencies in the event of nuclear disaster.

After the mock exercise, the NDMA had instructed all states to prepare development plans in villages falling under the emergency planning zone of the nuclear plants.

Responding to this, the Karnataka government had intimated the Disaster Management Authority that it has prepared a proposal on upgrading infrastructure around Kaiga nuclear plant.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with a delegation led by Rajya Sabha member Sitaram Yachury, the NDMA vice chairman Shashidhar Reddy said that his organisation will ensure that people living close to nuclear plants get better infrastructure including healthcare, education and livelihood opportunities.

In response to the delegation's request to rehabilitate the residents of five villages falling within five km radius of Kaiga plant, Reddy explained that people living only in the 1.6 km sterile zone have been rehabilitated, while in the exclusion zone covering five km radius, residents were not rehabilitated.

Reddy also promised that he would take up the issue with the Planning Commission to ensure that separate funds are earmarked for the development of villages close to the nuclear plant, said a statement from the Authority.

C M Ibrahim seeks Karnataka govt nod for mass Eid-ul-Fitr prayers

Bengaluru, May 14: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Former Union Minister and Congress Karnataka MLC, C M Ibrahim has, in a letter to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, sought permission for the Muslim community to congregate at Idgah grounds and mosques to offer namaz together on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr later this month.

"The Id-ul-Fitr festival in the state may be celebrated on the 24th or 25th May 2020, during which Muslims have to offer special prayers. On behalf of the entire community. I would suggest that the Government may take a decision by having due consultation with medical experts to grant permission for Muslims on the day of Id to offer prayers in the Idgah maidans or masjids from morning till 1 pm with all precautionary measures and safety norms," the letter states.

"In this regard. I request you to kindly look into the matter and after consulting the medical experts, take a suitable decision enabling Muslims all over the state to offer ld prayers at ldgah Maidans or Masjids in their respective localities," the letter added.

As part of its COVID-19 guidelines, the Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier directed states and Union territories to prevent social gatherings and religious congregations and ensure lockdown measures were strictly followed.

If Mr. Yediyurappa gives permission as reqested by Ibrahim, it will be adisastor for Muslims community, Saudi Arabia imposed , full curfew from 23rd to 30th May, 2020, this is to avoid Eid gathering and spread of Corona Virus, our community should boycott such so called self declared leader.

Any new cases of Covid-19 cases will be blamed as Eid Jihad, request all our like minded people to protest this request.

CM Ibrahim is just trying to attract media and public atttention. he is a useless politician.

Who is he? What is he? And what did he do to Muslim community and who gave him the authorization to talk to the minister of behalf of Muslim Community

8 arrested for entering Mangaluru from Kerala through sea amid covid-19 lockdown

Mangaluru, Apr 10: Eight people were arrested on Friday on charges of illegally arriving at Addur near the city through boat violating the lockdown.

Police said that Yakub and other seven in his group have been charged with criminal cases for entering the city illegally as the border between Kerala and Karnataka has been sealed and a ban on travel between the States is in effect.

The group had arrived through boat despite there was ban. Police are now investigating the existence of a gang who are illegally transporting people through the sea across State borders.

Kasaragod's General Hospital discharges last of its 89 COVID-19 patients

Kasaragod, Apr 29: Kasaragod's General Hospital on Tuesday discharged the last of its 89 COVID-19 patients, who were admitted since the outbreak of the disease last month.

The patient discharged on Tuesday is a native of Anankur in Kerala. He was under treatment for 27 days following his return from Dubai. He was given a warm send-off at 12 noon by the doctors and hospital staff.

Of the 175 positive cases in Kasaragod district, only 12 are under treatment in other hospitals in the district now. Of them, seven had come from the Gulf and the remaining five were those in contact with them.

During a press meet, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, while referring the Kasaragod General Hospital's success story, congratulated the doctors, nurses and medical staff for the achievement.

According to Health Department, in spite of treating the highest number of COVID-19 patients in the state with meagre infrastructural facilities and even without the support of a medical college in the district, there have been no deaths.

According to the district administration, Kasaragod has conducted 4,112 tests so far, out of which 3,104 tested negative and the results of 833 are awaited.

The team of doctors, nurses and other staff numbering 250 is led by Dr Rajaram K Kandiyil, Superintendent of the Kasaragod General Hospital.
