CM lays foundation for sea food processing plant

Mangalore, January 28: Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda on Saturday laid foundation stone for the proposed modern sea food processing plant under the Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) on the premises of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC) at Hoige Bazaar, here.

The government under RKVY sanctioned has Rs 25 crore to the KFDC to strengthen the fish marketing activities in Karnataka. The modern sea food processing plant will be set up at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

The plant was proposed, following the shortage of fish processing plants. As a result, the fish catch from Mangalore was being transported to Kerala and exported from there.

The plant which will come up will consist of 500 tonne frozen storage, 10 tonne capacity flake ice plant, trolly freezer having a capacity of 10 tonne per day, plate freezer of 6 tonne capacity per day and 10 tonne chilled room.

This plant will have water purification unit (RO), Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), Quality control lab meeting the standards of export inspection council of India (AIC), European Union (EU) and will implement HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point). It is proposed to produce frozen fish and fishery products, value added- ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat fishery products for domestic and export market.

The work of constructing the plant has been entrusted to the lowest bidder M/s ETA Engineering Company, Bangalore, for Rs 4.56 crore. The plant will be ready within a period of 9 months, he said and added that there is a lot of potential for processing of sea food for domestic and export market.

Kalaburagi, May 4: Migrant workers stranded in different parts of Karnataka arrived in buses at Central Bus Stand in Kalaburagi on Monday morning and are being sent to their home towns.

The Kalaburagi City Corporation has made the requisite arrangements for labourers and their thermal screening is also being done.

"Food packets and water bottles are being provided to all. Buses carrying migrant workers started arriving from 5 am. We are expecting around 70 buses. This process will continue for the next 3 days," Rahul Pandve, Kalaburagi Commissioner City Corporation, told news agency.

"We have made arrangements for registration. And all arriving at the site are undergoing thermal screening," he said.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had on Sunday allowed labourers to travel to their hometowns in the state on KSRTC buses free of charge for three days starting on Sunday.

Bengaluru, Jul 26: Today, one of the Co-founders of Infosys, SD Shibulal announced that over the last three days (22nd - 24th July) his family members have sold a portion of (representing approximately 0.20 per cent of the paid-up equity share capital) their holding in Infosys Ltd on the stock exchanges.

Proceeds from the partial stake monetization will be utilized for a combination of philanthropic and investment activities.

The sale was executed by Citigroup Global Markets India Private Limited as the Sole Broker.

The Founders, have served Infosys in various capacities, since its inception in 1981 until October 2014. Over the three decades, the Founders have nurtured the company transforming it into one of the professionally run companies in India with a global presence.

Udupi, Jan 26: The late seer of Pejawar Mutt Vishwesha Tirtha Swami has been posthumously honoured with Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to spiritualism.

The seer, who passed away in December last, was known as a Hindu reformist spiritual leader.

He was also among the religious heads to be in the forefront of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and was a vocal proponent for the construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya.
