Mangalore, February 1: The minority morcha of the district unit of the BJP will hold a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Mangalore on February 7 demanding withdrawal of cases filed against RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat in connection with a speech he made in Uppinangady last month.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Anwar Manippady, chairman of Karnataka Minorities Commission and N.B. Aboobaker, president, Minorities Development Corporation, said the minorities cell of the party will submit a fact-finding report on the episode to the Governor of Karnataka through the deputy commissioner at the conclusion of the protest meeting.

The BJP leaders also hit out at the Muslim Central Committee president K.S. Mohammed Masood for accusing Bhat of fanning communal tension. "Masood is acting as an agent of Congress and JD(S)," Mr. Manippady and Mr. Aboobaker said.

Mr. Manippady also released the CD of the allegedly provocative speech delivered by Bhat on 22nd January 2012. Ironically the tape of the speech available on the internet contains derogatory references to both Muslim and Christian community. In fact, the RSS leader had started off his speech by refering to the strenght of the Hindus vis a vis Muslims. "We are a nation of 110 crore people. If you assume there are 20 crore Muslims in the country the remaining 90 crore population is Hindu. If we (Hindus) just blow wind from our mouth, they (Muslims) will be nowhere," - the footage shows Mr. Bhat using similar language throughout his speech.

Mr. Bhat has also used offensive language against the Christian priests and urged Hindu parents not to send their children to Christian schools, which in fact is a clear sign of dividing the society on the basis of religion. He has also ridiculed the use of term father for Christian priests. "Why do you allow your children to call someone father?" he had mockingly asked.

Ridiculing Shariath, Mr. Bhat had said that if the Shariah law were to be implemented in India, 90 per cent of Muslims would not have arms. We would not find land to bury them (Muslims) to be stoned for indulging in indultry," Mr. Bhat had said.

He had also made a remark on Burkha, asking the Muslim youths, who are allegedly "behind Hindu girls" to lift the veil of your own girls before trying to lure our (Hindu) girls. "If you don't find them beautiful then you think about our (Hindu) girls," Mr. Bhat had said.

However, Mr. Manippady and Mr. Aboobaker, in their defence of Mr. Bhat, insisted that there were no derogatory referencest to Burkha in the speech. "It is organisations like Congress, JD(S) and KFD which are supporting anti-social elements. Why was Masood silent when slogans supporting Pakistan were raised during a procession," he asked.

Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy president-designate Rahim Uchil, General Secretary of the Minority Morcha Fazal Asaigoli, Anwar Reeko, among others, were present.

Mangaluru, June 11: The Saudi Arabia based Expertise Contracting Company, which is repatriating its employees to India and other countries, today allocated around 90 seats of one of its chartered flights to Kannadigas stranded in Saudi Arabia.

The Gulf Air flight took off with around 175 passengers on board from Dammam International Airport around noon local time. It is expected to land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 7 p.m. Indian time.

In fact the company had chartered the flights only to repatriate its employees. However, due to the lack of special flights under Vande Bharati Mission, the company decided to help the other stranded Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia, who had approached Saudi Kannadigas Humanity Forum for help.

A company official said that around 2,000 employees from various countries in the Indian subcontinent are being repatriated, of which 1,665 are Indians.  Already hundreds of them have reached India, and hundreds are still waiting for repatriation.

“We are grateful to Expertise for allowing to travel in the flight which the company had chartered to repatriate its own employees,” said one of the passengers before boarding the flight at the airport.

Director of Expertise, KS Shaikh said the 20-year-old Expertise group, one of the largest conglomerates in the GCC operating in petrochemical and heavy equipment sectors, has more than 10,000 employees and their family members in the Gulf, mainly in Jubail, one of the largest industrial cities.

Of these, the company has chosen over 2,000 employees for the covid-related repatriations considering various emergencies. He said 12 chartered flights have been engaged to carry out the repatriation exercise to the Indian subcontinent.

Mysuru, Jan 20: Fears over CAA and proposed NRC have affected the ongoing 7th economic census. Following complaints of violence against enumerators and registration of FIR with people declining to give information, the state government has asked deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to hold awareness programmes about it.

The planning, programme monitoring & statistics department has requested the home department to provide cooperation at the police station level while additional chief secretary P Ravi Kumar, in his letter to all DCs, has asked them to create awareness. According to sources, enumerators in T Narasipura town of Mysuru district faced resistance as some residents misunderstood the reason for this census.

A senior officer of the directorate of economics and statistics said that additional chief secretary (ACS- Planning, Programme Monitoring & Statistics Department) Shalini Rajneesh has written to the home department and superintendents of police of all districts seeking their help to create awareness about the economic census.

According to sources in the directorate, in many places, people are refusing to share information under the misconception that it is related to CAA/ NRC. “Many are mistaken about the economic census. As a precaution, police help has been sought,” an officer said.

Authorities in Mysuru said the 7th economic census began on December 20 and will conclude on March 30.

“In Mysuru city alone, we need to cover a population of 11 lakh. In T Narasipura, we faced problems due to misconceptions about Census and CAA. We reported the incident which happened in an area where minorities reside in large numbers,” he explained. Mysuru SP CB Rishyanth said his office has not received any direction in this matter.
