Honnavar, February 1: Members of a women's self-help group (SHG) on Tuesday laid siege to the Honnavar police station seeking the arrest of three persons who had been allegedly selling hooch at Keravalli village in Honnavar taluk.
They said Ishwar, Narayan, and Gajanan were selling hooch in the village. This had led to law and order problem in the village. Many families in the village had lost everything after men became addicted to hooch.
On January 26, when members of SHGs appealed to the three persons not to sell hooch, they were abused and Sudha Krishna Naik was beaten up. Gajanan had allegedly attacked three women.
Members of Keravalli Sthree Shakthi Sangha Sudha Naik, Parvathi Gowda, Ganapi Gowda, Kanye Gouda, and Savitri Gowda were present.
