Venur, February 5: Thousands of devotees from across the nation witnessed the religious rituals on the eighth day of Mahamastakabhisheka here on Saturday.

While the monolith statue of Bhagavan Sri Bahubali was anointed, chanting of mantras reverberated the air. Rituals began with 504 kalasha jalabhisheka by family members of Srikshetra Dharmastala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade and later by others. Standing atop the attalige, devotees poured holy water on the statue, while purohiths chanted mantras. Narikela abhisheka followed the jalabhisheka rituals, where water collected from 400 tender coconuts was poured.

The statue was anointed with 350 litres of sugarcane juice as part of Ikshurasabhisheka. Devotees poured 800 litres of milk to offer Ksheerabhishekha. In Kalka Choornabhisheka ritual, the statue was anointed with 40 kg of rice powder. A total of 80 kg of turmeric powder was used for arishina abhisheka.

After Chatushkona Kalashabhisheka, the statue was bathed in Kashaya Abhisheka. Later, Gandhabhisheka, Chandanabhisheka and Ashtagan dhabhisheka were offered, where the statue was anointed with 80 kg of sandal paste, of three different varieties each.

Pushpavrishti, ritual of showering flowers, was held with a huge garland to the statue. Gold and silver coins were showered to the statue to mark the Ratnavrishti. Shanti mantra poorvaka poorna kumbhabhisheka was offered to conclude the rituals of the day.

In the morning, Sri Parshwanatha Muni Maharaja was brought to the Ahaaradhana of Venur Mane in a procession. Kankana kattuvudu, gandha yanthraradhane, manthranyasa, thilakanyasa, kevalajnana kalyana, prathishta mahotsva, mukhavasthra udghatane and Sribali Mahamangalarathi rituals were offered to the Lord.

Mandya, Jun 13: Degree colleges will begin classes after the lockdown is lifted and dates for examinations will be announced later, said deputy chief minister CR Ashwath Narayan on Friday.

Speaking at College of Agriculture, Mandya (VC Farm) on Friday, Ashwath Narayan said the lockdown will be completely phased out on June 30 and degree colleges will begin classes after that. “We will speak with all stakeholders to chalk out measures as to how to reopen degree colleges amidst coronavirus scare. All students must continue their studies and be prepared for exams,” he said.

Narayan said the cabinet has approved to upgrade VC Farm as a university and an ordinance will soon be promulgated in this regard. “There is a need to change the present curriculum to meet present day requirements. VC Farm will be made into a world class agriculture university and a vice chancellor will be appointed,” he said.

“Apart from traditional education, we must concentrate on skill-based education as it should create more job opportunities. We are committed to establish more skill-based educational institutes in Mandya district,” Narayan said.

Later Narayan visited Shivaragudda near Maddur and inspected 48 acres of government land which could be used for establishing skill-based education institutions. “This land was earlier used for imparting skill-based education in a collaboration with Denmark. Sir M Visvesvaraya had established skill-based institutions here in 1923 and now they have become defunct. The then prime minister of Denmark had inaugurated this century old institution. We will revive it and this will help local youths,” he said.

‘Ticket promised only to R Shankar’

When asked, Narayan said R Shankar, who quit the Congress-JD(S) coalition and joined BJP will be given a party ticket to contest the legislative council election. “Except Shankar, the high command did not promise council tickets to those who quit congress and JD(S) and joined our party. It is true that there is hectic lobbying in BJP to get tickets,” he said.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: Karnataka Police and intelligence have been asked to be on alert in the wake of communal violence in Delhi and take preemptive measures, state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here on Wednesday.

"We have been keeping a close watch on the developments after the Delhi incident. I have instructed my officers to be on alert and take precautionary actions rather than actions after the incidents," Bommai told media.

"The day before yesterday we had a high-level meeting...we are having a close watch," he added.

Violence erupted in Delhi on Sunday evening after groups protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those supporting it indulged in stone pelting at each other.

The confrontation soon turned communal and the violence spread to other areas of northeast Delhi including Chand Bagh, Mustafabad, Brijpuri, Shiv Vihar and Noor Ilahi on Monday and Tuesday in which at least 20 persons, including a police head constable, have died and over 200 have been injured.

Mangaluru, May 5: Even as the coastal city entered third phase of lockdown to contain the spread of covid-19, a wild bison was spotted in Mangaluru today.

According to sources, local residents at Hathill area and Mannagudda area spotted bison. It is not sure whether it was the same bison or two different bison.

Some reports claimed that it was spotted in Kudroli area too triggering panic among people.

With the help of local residents and police, the forest officials managed to catch the bison around noon.

It is assumed that the wild animal must have come to the city as there was less movement of people and vehicle due to lockdown for past few weeks.
