JD(S) gearing up for district-level convention in Moodbidri on Feb 12

Mangalore, February 7: A convention of the Janata Dal workers of the Dakshina Kannada district will be held in Moodbidri on Sunday, February 12, said former minister and senior party leader Amarnath Shetty here on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Woodlands, Mr. Shetty said, a galaxy of leaders including former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will attend teh confrence, which according to him, was being organised to strenghthen the party in the coastal districts.

Former Union Minister Basanagowda Patil Yetnal and Member of Parliament Cheluvaraya Swamy will be the chief guests at the convention to be inaugurated at 10.30 am and the dais has been named after former chief minister S. Bangarappa.

Madhu Bangarappa, the president of Youth Janata Dal, Mahendra Kumar, in-charge of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, MLC Abdul Azeem, among others will address the meeting.

Dakshina Kannada district president of the Janata Dal (S), general secretary Vasantha Poojary, corporator Aziz Kudroli, among other office-bearers, were present at the press meet.

Mangaluru, Mar 27: Amid fear of coronavirus spread, the District Collector on Friday ordered the closure of the city’s major fishing area Dhakke.

''The fish caught by us on Wednesday were dumped, without being sold'', fishermen said. Meanwhile, a few them obtained police permission and took the fish to the nearby fish mill.

All the boats which had gone for fishing are back to the dock and the port is deserted. Also, the fishermen who went fishing have been advised to return.

Mangaluru, Feb 11: BJ Puttaswamy, chairman of the State Planning Board stated that the detailed project report (DPR) to develop the Mangaluru-Karwar fisheries road at a cost of Rs 780 crores has been submitted to the state government and approval for it by the Coastal Development Authority (CDA) is pending.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said the new developments done and in those in the future for the coastal districts.

He claimed that a feasibility report for the development of State Highway 67 has been submitted to the government.

Tumakuru, Jul 12: A four-year-old boy was killed by a leopard at Rajendrapur hamlet at Hasige Hobli village near Huliyurdurga in Kunigal taluk.

Police said on Sunday that this was the third such attack by big cats in the district in a span of six months.

Forest officials said that the boy had gone with his mother to wash clothes at a tank and the animal attacked him while playing there on Saturday late evening. 

A passerby who witnessed the incident scared the animal, it escaped leaving the boy’s body behind.
