Mangalore, February 8: A public felicitation function has been organised to honour noted poet, critic, writer and teacher Dr Na Damodar Shetty recognising his services in the fields of education, theatre, music, literature on February 11 at Mangalore Town Hall.

The programme will be inaugurated by Poet and Litterateur K S Nisar Ahmed. Karnataka Jesuit Provincial Rev Fr Francis Serrao S J will preside. Kuvempu Bhasha Bharathi Director Professor Gurudatta will release the felicitation book “Nada Loka” on the occasion.

Karnataka Bank Managing Director Jayaram Bhat, Alva's Educational Institutions President Dr M Mohan Alva, Litterateur Dr D K Chowta and others will be the guests.

A session on 'Kannada-Malayalam Language' will be taken up by critic Prof T P Ashok and renowned Malayalam critic Dr Rajakrishnan. Dr C N Ramachandran will preside over the progarmme.

The second session will be on 'Drama, TV shows and Cinema'. Actor Mandya Ramesh and TV serial Director N S Sethuram will be speak on the topic.

The programme will be presided over by Veteran Film Director Girish Kasarvalli.

The third session will be on 'Light music'. Litterateurs Professor H S Venkatesh Murthy and B R Lakshman Rao will speak on the topic. Rajya Sabha Member B Jayashree will preside.The felicitation programme will be held at 5.30 pm. Litterateur Professor B A Vivek Rai will preside.

Noted Film Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar will felicitate Dr Na Da Shetty.Criticisms on theatre work 'Rangada Amruta-Vimarsheya Garuda' and a CD on music “Nada Bhava” will be released.A light music programme has also been organised and eminent singers Rameshchandra, Chandrashekar Kedilaya, K S Surekha, Pallavi Prabhu, Mrityunjaya Doddamada will perform.

National award winning drama “Eka Dashanana” by students of Alvas Institute will be performed.

The winners of several competitions such as skit, music, poem held in honour of Dr N Damodar Shetty will be awarded.

A drama show “Makkala Maya Loka” will be held at Altorium in St Aloysius College at 6.30 pm, informed event convener Dr A M Narahari in a press meet.

Bengaluru, Mar 13: District administration in Kalaburagi, where the first death in India due to COVID-19 was reported, has identified over 25 people, who come close to the deceased and quarantined for observation, Minister for Health B Sreeramulu said on Friday.

In reply to a debate on the issue during Zero Hour of the Legislative Assembly, the Health Minister said that two members of the victim’s family and 23 others are suspected of COVID-19.

Mr. Sreeramulu said all the schools of the district have been as a preventive measure to contain the deadly virus.

Bhatkal, Mar 30: Uttara Kannada district administration has decided to shift all those Bhatkal residents who have returned from abroad after March 15 to quarantine facilities in Bhatkal town to avoid further family contacts, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada K Harish Kumar said on Monday.

“All primary contacts identified are already in government quarantine facilities,” he said in a communique.

All people must cooperate to maintain social distancing to avoid further spread of COVID-19, he added.

Udupi, Jun 16: A young software engineer died on board a bus bound for Udupi’s Kundapura from Bengaluru due to suspected cardiac arrest this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Chaitanya (25), son of Vishnu Murthy, a resident of Kumbri in Koteshwar in Kundapura taluk. He was working for a software firm Bengaluru.

Chaitanya had boarded a ‘Durgamba’ bus from Bengaluru at 9 pm on June 15. At around 6.30 am on June 16, he called his father and informed that the bus had reached Barkur.

When his father called Chaitanya again at around 7.30 am, the bus driver answered the call and told him that his son had fallen ill and been taken to Vinaya hospital in Kundapur.

Vishnu Murthy rushed to the hospital, but was informed by the doctors that Chaitanya was declared brought dead.

A case has been registered at Kundapura police station. Even though it is suspected that he died of cardiac arrest, the exact cause will be known only after the post-mortem.
