Mangalore, February 12: Thousands of crazy youths, including an overwhelming number of girls on Sunday thronged Kankanady in the city to fulfill their insuppressible desire to meet one of their favorite Bollywood stars.

While hundreds of girls had come with autographs, a few girls had red roses in their hands. When John Abraham alighted from his car, a group of girls brushed past the crowd to shake their hands and to pose for photograph with the star of Gen Y.

The 39-year-old actor was in the coastal city to participate in the inauguration of Euro Gold and Asmi Diamond showrooms. Though he tried to utter a few words after inauguration of showrooms, each one among the crowd of crazy fans intensified their crazy screaming continuing their fight at least to touch him.

In one occasion the crazy fans jostled with police in a bid to get closer to their hero.

When Abraham, waved at the crowd saying 'Love You All', a mad rush was caused as fans jumped and stepped over each other stretching their hands towards him.

Despite the presence of private security guards, the city police had a tough time controlling the fans, who starting lining up in the morning to catch a glimpse of Indian cinema's one of the first gay sex symbols.

John, who had exhibited his muscle power in some of his recent movies including 'Force', was forced to demonstrate the same to some of his fans.

The actor turned a bit violent when a crazy girl grabbed his hand under the pretext of shaking it and bit his fingers.

“John pushed the girl forcefully, when she bit his finger” said one of the disappointed fans, who could not even touch her favourite actor.

An eye witness also claimed that John even thrashed some crazy girls.

Bengaluru, Jan 13: Right-wing organisations, along with BJP and RSS workers, will take out a massive padayatra in Kanakapura on Monday, protesting against the construction of a Jesus Christ statue.

The event organised by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) will witness a rally from the Aiyappa temple in Kanakapura to the taluk panchayat office, where a memorandum will be submitted to the authorities following a public meeting.

Ahead of the event, Congress leader D K Shivakumar, in a video message released on Sunday, urged the people of Kanakapura to maintain calm. The former minister cast apprehensions over the event scheduled on Monday and said provocative statements may be made to disturb peace and harmony in Kanakapura.

Shivakumar, who represents the Kanakapura constituency, said the motive of the meeting by the leaders and workers of the BJP and the RSS, along with seers of mutts, was to defame his constituency.

“If any remarks are made against me, my brother (D K Suresh) or people of different faiths in Kanakapura constituency, do not be provoked,” he urged.

“Members of the (Christian) community have prayed at the site for 400 years and are trying to install a statue of Jesus Christ. I have helped the community like I aided hundreds of temples and educational institutions,” he said.

Appealing to maintain peace, Shivakumar said that BJP and RSS leaders were free to petition anybody.

The BJP and right-wing organisations have objected to the construction of the statue at Kapala Betta, with the BJP government ordering a probe into how road, power supply and other facilities were provided to the hill. Recently, Christian leaders had petitioned Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to remove any impediments to the construction of the statue.

Mangaluru, May 17: Former health minister U T Khader demanded that the authorities carry out a scientific analysis of the five deaths that occurred due to Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada.

“The number of fatalities vis-à-vis the number of positive cases in the district is worrying, and the district administration and health department should not take the matter lightly. Lapses, if any, in dealing with the co-morbidity factors should be addressed, lest it become a major health challenge,” he warned.

Addressing reporters on Saturday, Khader, said only carrying out such types of analysis will help the health department combat the spread of the novel coronavirus in the future. “At present, the only data available with the health authorities here and in the state war room, is the number of people tested and number of positive cases,” Khader said.

“Any strategy to combat Covid-19 must be built around scientific analysis of causes of how the disease is spreading and to do so, concrete efforts must be made to find the source of the cluster at the First Neuro Hospital in Padil. A analysis of reasons that caused the deaths, will also come in handy for the authorities to prepare suitable advisories for the people, who in turn could take informed decisions,” Khader noted.
