CM lauds Mangalore media

Mangalore, February 12: Print and electronic media should bring out the news without twisting or exaggerating the facts, said Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda

Speaking after formally inaugurating the new hall of Patrika Bhavan here on Sunday, he said though the press club belonged to media, it was dedicated to people of entire Dakshina Kannada district, as it disseminates information to the people.

He said that the State government has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh each for the construction of Patrika Bhavan in those districts where there was no such facility for journalists. Apart from this grant, Rs 12.5 lakh each has been sanctioned for the facelift of the existing Patrika Bhavans.

He said that State Government has always encouraged journalists in many ways. Increasing the pension from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 and conferring awards, etc were the favours of BJP government, he said.

Praising the Mangalore media for what he called 'their excellent work', he said the journalists here still have to play a responsible role in the future as the city is undergoing a speedy growth.


Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Union president P B Harish Rai presided over the function.

Deputy Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly N Yogish Bhat, MCC Mayor Praveen Anchan, Mulky-Moodbidri MLA Abhaya Chandra Jain, Mangalore MLA UT Khader, and Bantwal MLA B Ramanath Rai were among the chief guests.

DK district Deputy Commissioner N S Channappa Gowda and Commissioner of Police Seemanth Kumar Sigh were also present.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: The rush for purchase of essential commodities has eased in several places in Dakshina Kannada with the relaxation of lockdown from Wednesday between 7 am and 12 noon by the district administration. However, a few markets in Mangaluru still had queues in front of vegetable shops on Wednesday.

Vegetable shops and markets in Mallikatte, Kadri, Bejai-Kapikad, Urwastore, Mannagudda and Carstreet areas were crowded with people violating social distancing norms due to the coronavirus crisis.

To avoid swelling of crowds at Central Market in Mangaluru, the market was opened only for wholesalers to collect vegetables. The entry of public to Central Market was prohibited.

MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde Shanady said that retail sale is prohibited at Central Market.

The Surathkal market too has been closed from April and traders from the market are allowed to sell essential commodities at alternative locations from 7 am to 12 noon.

Mangaluru, July 30: Under the KKMA Dream House (Home for Homeless) project, the Karnataka Branch of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association built two new houses at Nelyadi in Puttur taluk (house # 12 & 13) and handed over the keys on 29th July 2020 to the two widows as an Eid al-Adha gift for them.

Mr. S.M. Basha, president of Sea Food Buyers Association, Mangaluru, Mr. Sajid A.K, president of Highland Islamic Forum (HIF), Mangaluru, Mr. S.M. Farooq, president of KKMA Karnataka State Committee and Mr. Abubakker Thumbay, Vice President of Karnataka Branch Religious Affairs graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

Mr. S.M. Basha along with other dignitaries handed over the House # 12 key to a widow with three daughters at Bail house in Nelyadi and Mr. Sajid A.K. handed over the House # 13 key to another widow with two children at Alampadi in Nelyadi. 

Ustaad Haneef Saqafi, Qateeb Badriya Juma Masjid Nelyadi, Advocate Ismail, Ex-President and present committee member, Abdul Qader, Secretary of Jamaat, Taj Umar, Treasurer of Jamath, City Abbu, Ex-President of Jamath were present.  Ustaad Haneef Saqafi did the dua prayers. Mr. Abdul Rehman,  Contractor of the two houses was also present.

Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association being a leading Social Service Organization is an Extrordinary organization of ordinary people has successfully implemented several social development projects in Kerala and Karnataka states. KKMA Karnataka branch has previously handed over 11 houses for homeless at different places in Dakshina Kannada District.

Bengaluru, May 1: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday announced Rs 30 lakhs compensation for corona warriors, in case they lose lives while carrying out their duties.

"Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced Rs 30 lakhs compensation for Anganwadi workers & assistants, civil workers, and police personnel who die after getting infected by COVID-19 while carrying out their duties," State Chief Minister's Office said in a statement.

According to Union Health Ministry website, a total of 557 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the state so far including 223 cured and 21 deaths.

Meanwhile, With 1,823 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours and 67 deaths, India's total count of coronavirus cases has gone up to 33,610, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
