Mangalore, February 13: Mangalore MLA U T Khader on Monday reiterated the Congress party's demand that the MLAs involved in the porngate should be disqualified from Assembly.

Addressing a press meet here Mr Khader said that stringent legal action shout be taken against those who caught watching porn during Assembly proceedings as they had desecrated the temple of democracy.

However, Mr Khader said that he was not sure if the mobile phone in which former ministers Laxman Savadi and C C Patil were watching the pornographic clippings in the Assembly belonged to former minister Krishna J Palemar. However, he said that in case the mobile did belong to Palemar then a case should be booked and action should be taken against him.

Mr Khader denied the rumours that he had forwarded the porn clips to Mangalore North MLA Krishna J Palemar, with whom he shared a cordial relationship.

The mobile phone, on which the BJP MLAs Laxman Savadi and CC Patil caught watching porn, belonged to Mr Palemar. As some television footages showed Palemar and Khader watching something on latter's mobile a couple of hour before the porngate scandal, rumours had erupted that Khader had forwarded the obscene clips.

“I was showing the pictures of some bad roads in the district captured by myself to Palemar. I also showed my little daughters photo to him”, Khader said.

Mr Khader lamented that even though Mr Palemar had already clarified the same to media, some people were deliberately trying to drag his name in the porngate.

He said that later he felt that using mobile phone inside the Assembly was his mistake. “But, I feel that there should be a provision to use mobile phones inside the Assembly on some occasions as it is the age of technology”, he said. However, no one should misuse it, he added.

Mr Khader alleged that the BJP Government in the State had failed in the last four years to fulfil promises made to the people.

He said that the Government had failed in enhancing the power generation. “Not even one MW of power has been added in the last four years,” Mr. Khader said. The Government had not taken up any viable project for the growth of Dakshina Kannada, he alleged.

Mr. Khader took potshots at Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda's statement on pothole-free roads. “He first assured of filling potholes by December.

The deadline was then extended till January. Even in the second week of February there has not been any significant progress.” Mr. Khader said the Government should first clear bills of contractors. “The Government should immediately call a meeting of legislators to discuss this issue,” he said.

Mr. Khader said delay in releasing Rs. 1 crore grant for each MLA was hindering him from carrying out development activities. “So far, only Rs. 64 lakh has been released.”

Mr. Khader said the State Government was yet to implement the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations for the State government employees.

He expressed his dissatisfaction over the poor utilisation of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation scheme.

Palemar confirms

Confirming Khader's statement Mr Palemar said that he had discussed a few things with the former on the day of porngate.

“Khader was peeved about bad roads in his constituency. He showed me pictures of bad roads on his mobile. There were pictures of Khader's child too. I enquired about his daughter. The discussion veered to which is better: iPad or the Galaxy Note”, Mr Palemar said.

Mangaluru, May 2: Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, a prominent Muslim religeous leader in coastal Karnataka has urged the Dakshina Kannada district administration not to end the covid-19 lockdown before the end of the blessed month of Ramadan.

The appeal comes in the wake of reports that the state government may allow opening of clothe shops during the month of Ramadan to felicitate Muslims for Eid shopping.

"Muslims in the district have completely cooperated with the district administration in making the lockdown sucessfull. They have refrained from going to mosque even for Juma and Taraveeh during Ramadan. Such a lockdown is necessary to contain the pandemic," said Musliyar, who is also the Khazi of Udupi and Chikkamagaluru.

If the district administration withdraws lockdwon or relaxes it, people in large numbers may storm cloth shops wherein it physical distancing will be difficult, Musliyar warned.

He said that Muslims in the region have decided to observe Eid ul Fitr, a festival which marks the end of the blessed month, in a simple way maintaining physical distance. Hence the lockdown should be relaxed only after the festival, he suggested.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: Karnataka government on Tuesday ordered organisations and NGOs in the state to distribute food to people in plastic boxes and not in polythene bags.

"The state government has ordered the distribution of food and meals in plastic boxes instead of in polythene bags," said the Information and Public Relations Department of the state government.

According to the government, during Covid-19, not only government departments and agencies but also various organisations and NGOs are providing meals to workers in polythene covers.

"However, in order to protect the health of the workers, the government has ordered the supply of food or meals in plastic boxes instead of polythene covers," it added.

Bengaluru, Feb 29: Gangster Ravi Poojary, who was arrested from Senegal earlier this week, and is being interrogated by the Cental Crime Branch (CCB) police, wants to evade the Mumbai police for any kind of inquiry. Claiming that there is a serious threat to his life, he is believed to have told his investigators that he should not be sent there. Poojary is being grilled by the CCB for his alleged involvement in numerous cases.

“He is aware that he will be given to the custody of Mumbai police as he had committed several crimes before fleeing India and also made hundreds of extortion calls to the well-heeled there. Hence, he has started requesting us not to send him to Mumbai. He claimed that he has many rivals there and they may go to any extent to get him killed,” a source said. Poojary was once an associate of dreaded underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Poojary has little option but to face Mumbai cops

Poojary had left Dawood’s gang and had joined Chhota Rajan, who split from D-Company and established his own network. There were also attempts by Dawood’s men to assassinate Rajan on a few occasions. During his days in Mumbai, Poojary was also reportedly facing threats from Dawood and other gangsters. “Since Poojary had jumped bail in the murder case of a gangster in Mumbai and f l e d the country, he has no option but to face trial again. Besides, he has made over a hundred extortion calls to businessmen and celebrities in Mumbai in the last two decades.

It’s inevitable for him to face inquiry by the Mumbai police,” an official said. “Now that he knows his options are limited, he is requesting us not to send him to Mumbai under any circumstance, claiming that he faces a serious threat to his life by Dawood’s aides and others. However, when we are done with questioning him, and if Mumbai police approach the court, it will decide whether to give him to their custody or not,” the official added. Poojary, who was brought to India on February 24, has been remanded to police custody till March 7. The police are likely to seek extension of his custody as he is facing close to 100 cases in Karnataka.

Cases filed in 4 states the gangster, originally from Malpe in Dakshina Kannada, has cases against him in Kerala, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. At least 46 cases are registered in Bengaluru alone.
