Jamia Islamia international education conference from March 18

Bhatkal, February 19: An international education convention will be held in the town under the aegis of the Jamia Islamia Institute from March 18 to 21 as part of its golden jubilee celebrations.

Mohammed Raza Manvi, spokesperson of the institution, told the presspersons that the convention was to spread the message of brotherhood.

Moulana Syed Mohammed Rabey Husaini Saheb Nadvi, president, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), would inaugurate the event, he said.

Scholars and educational experts from various countries would participate in it. Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math and Veerendra Heggade were expected to participate in the convention, he said.

Exhibition

The exhibition on Nawayat Muslim community which was mainly present in Bhatkal would be held. The Nawayats, whose mother tongue was similar to Konkani, had a history of over 1,400 years, he said.

Ten books on different subjects would be released during the convention, he said.

He said people had misgivings about the madrasas. The main aim of the convention was to provide real information about the madrasas.

SDPI, PFI disturbing peace in Karnataka with the support of Congress: Sriramulu

Bengaluru, Jan 17: Karnataka Health Minister and BJP leader B Sriramulu on Friday claimed that Congress supports Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Popular Front of India (PFI) to disturb peace in the state.

His statement came after the arrest of 6 SDPI supporters in connection with an attack on a BJP-RSS follower during a pro-CAA rally held in December last year.

"The Congress party 100 per cent supports SDPI and PFI. Whenever they do not get the power, they try to disturb the peace with the support of SDPI and PFI. I will propose in Karnataka Assembly session to ban these organisations in Karnataka. We will discuss this matter," Sriramulu told ANI.

"We had already demanded for the ban on these organisations in Karnataka when I was an MP. Shobha Karandlaje, Yediyurappa and I had met Rajnath Singh, the then Home Minister in Delhi and we had given a memorandum to ban SDPI and PFI," he added.

A case has been registered against arrested SDPI supporters under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Bengaluru Police is constituting a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) to handle this case.

"There were 6 people belonging to SDPI, who were here to carry out attacks on leaders supporting CAA. These people were being paid Rs 10,000 from their handlers to create ruckus here. Now this will be handled by the Anti-Terror unit," said Bhaskar Rao, Bengaluru Commissioner of Police.

Earlier today, Karnataka Minister Jagadish Shettar called for a ban on SDPI.

"SDPI always denies their involvement but it has been proved now. I welcome the police's action. Their organisation should be banned as they have always been involved in anti-social activities and government of India should take very serious note of this," Shettar told ANI here.

Santosh Hegde calls for peaceful coexistence, amity ahead of Ayodhya Bhumi Pujan

Bengaluru, Aug 4: As the stage is set for the ground-breaking ceremony for Ram temple construction at Ayodhya on Wednesday, retired Supreme Court judge N Santosh Hegde has called for the promotion of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence and respect for different faiths.

"It is a good idea to make that as an object of the temple so that there can be peace in the world," the former Solicitor General of India said when asked if the temple should be promoted as a symbol of national integration, and social and communal harmony.

Hegde said one of the most dangerous things for conflict today is religion. "In that background, there should be some effort from somebody or other to bring about peaceful coexistence, respecting each religion," the former Karnataka Lokayukta told PTI on Tuesday. "It is a good idea to start Bhumi Pujan as an indicator of that or foundation for developing harmony among various religions," he added.

The Supreme Court had in November last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple by a Trust at the disputed site of the Babri Masjid's demolition in Ayodhya. It also directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5- acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted a five-acre land in Dhannipur village in Sohaval Tehsil of Ayodhya for the mosque's construction.

Mangaluru police registers cases against 2 foreign nationals for allegedly spitting in lift

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Mangaluru Police have registered a case against two foreign nationals, who were under home quarantine in Kodailbail, for allegedly spitting in the lift of their apartment building on Friday.

The two men, along with three of their roommates, have now been sent to a quarantine facility.

The residents of the residential complex have mentioned in their complaint that they have the CCTV footage of the two spitting in the lift.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
