Kingfisher flights stay off Mangalore

Mangalore, February 20: Passengers of Kingfisher Airlines from the city faced hardship as the cash-strapped airlines on Monday cancelled all flights from Mangalore Airport.

On Sunday, the beleaguered airlines had operated just one flight to the city from Bangalore instead of three.

Mangalore Airport Director M R Vasudeva Rao said that on Sunday instead of two ATR flights in the morning and noon, the airline combined two flights and operated an air bus 320 at 11.45 am and the evening flight was cancelled.

“On Monday only one flight was scheduled to arrive, but, it did not so far” said Mr Vasudeva.

Manglauru, July 30: There will be no congregational prayer on Eid Al-Adha at the historic Eidgah mosque in Mangluru’s lighthouse hill this year due to covid-19 pandemic. 

The decision to suspend the Eid prayers in Eidgah was taken as per the guidelines issued by the State Board of Auqaf, said Haji Y Abdullah Kunhi, president of Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah Masjid.

However, Eid prayer will be held at Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid on July 31 at 7 a.m.

Muslims in coastal Karnataka will be celebrating Eid al-Adha on July 31 whereas Muslims in other parts of Karnataka and India are celebrating the festival on August 1.

Mangaluru, May 18: The coastal city of Mangaluru and other parts of twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are receiving heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunder.

The rain, which started in the wee hours, continued to lash for hours. It brought much relief from the sweltering heat.

Waterlogged roads in different parts of Mangaluru cause inconvenience to motorists. The clouds were so dark that the drivers were forced to switch on the headlights while driving vehicles in the morning.

The IMD has predicted heavy rain in the coastal Karnataka for next two days.

Lighting claims a life

Meanwhile, a youth died after lightning struck him at Paduyenagudde in Katpadi of Udupi district on Sunday late night. The deceased was identified as Bharat. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he failed to respond to the treatment.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Karnataka government will explore Ayurveda for fighting the deadly COVID-19, Ayurveda practitioner Dr Giridhar Kaje said here on Wednesday.

After meeting the Chief Minister, Dr Kaje informed media that on a trial basis, ten Coronavirus patients will be administered Ayurvedic treatment in a designated hospital.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has consulted senior doctors on the issue, he said.
