Mangalore Social Service Centre holds blood donation camp

Mangalore, February 23: Mangalore Social Service Centre on Wednesday organized a mass blood donation camp as part of its fifth anniversary celebration.

The camp was inaugurated with a Du'a by Boobuk Juma Masjid Khatheeb Sirajuddin Faizi in the morning.

Former Mayor K Ashraf presided over the inaugural session. Speaking on the occasion, he said blood donation is the greatest charity. It also prevents deceases, he said.

Corporator Mamatha Shenoy well wished the blood donors. Dr Nidhi of KMC Hospital, Mangalore, K E Rasheed, President, Social Service Centre and Haji K P Mohammed were present on the dias.

Social worker Harekala Hajabba, who is known as 'Akshara Santha' was given a warm felicitation by Haji K Abdul Azeez and Haji S Abdul Khader.

According to organisers, as many as 105 people from various places donated blood at the camp. Activist Nazeer Bajal, and office bearers of Mangalore Social Service Centre Zakir T, M H Amjad, Munavvar, Ashraf B, Basheer G and A K Naseer were present. Shamsuddin Kudroli welcomed the gathering. D M Musthafa proposed vote of thanks.

Belagavi, Jun 6: Suspecting that cow meat was being transported to Goa, unidentified persons set goods vehicle on fire near Karle village in Belagavi taluk last night.

The Incident came to the fore on Saturday morning.

Usually, vehicles carrying vegetables, milk and other essentials being transported to Goa and other towns plying via Karle village near Belagavi.

Sources said that for the past few days vehicles carrying meat were stopped and were handed over to police by section of activists suspecting it to be cow meat.

Persons who set the vehicle on fire were yet to be identified. Jurisdictional Belagavi Rural police have rushed to the spot. More details were awaited.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Sindhu B Rupesh in an official reminder has ordered milk unions to disburse about 5,000 litres of milk to residents of notified and non-notified slums, construction labourers and migrant labourers and their families in shelters in the district.

A decision regarding the free distribution of milk to such needy families was taken in a meeting by the chief minister on April 1.

The DC has ordered cooperative milk unions in the district to distribute milk to such families from April 4 till April 14.

Bengaluru, May 26: The Karnataka government has decided cancel summer vacation for undergraduate and post-graduate students and universities during the 2020-21 academic year in the wake of severe academic loss due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Keeping in mind the loss of academic days due to the lockdown to contain the pandemic, the Higher Education Department has decided to go in for ‘Zero Vacation’. 

The state government decided to cancel all holidays particularly the summer holidays after holding a series of meetings with the Vice Chancellors and other academicians from various parts of the state.

The decision was also communicated during the review meeting of the Higher Education Department held by CM Yediyurappa on Tuesday in Bengaluru.
