Chikmagalur, February 23: Karnataka BJP Chief K S Eshwarappa has expressed confidence that his party would retain the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency vacated by Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda.

Addressing a press conference he said that BJP candidate V Sunil Kumar would win with a wider margin. He said of the eight Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, seven MLAs are of BJP.

“Both, Udupi and Chikmagalur Zilla Panchayats are in BJP's control. More and more BJP workers are being elected for local governing bodies. Various developmental works undertaken by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and present Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will be the reason for our success,” he said.

When questioned, if the recent incidents and the internal problems within the party will have no impact on the election, he said that it will have an impact undoubtedly but in a positive way which will only lead the Party to success.

“Show me one pure party, which has no allegations and accusations against it? We do not have to hide our face because of any incidents. Further in politics, allegations and accusations are part of the game. We are facing several allegations but we have handled those issues in a responsible manner and we are confident of emerging as innocents,” he said adding that there might be minor differences within the party but such differences can never affect the existence of the party.

He said that when they could get complete majority, BJP did not have any option but to take support from independent candidates. At this juncture individuals who had shifted loyalty to BJP from other parties had to be given opportunity. “In this process somewhere Chikmagalur could not be given its due. In future sincere and the dedicated will be given priority,” he said.

MLA D N Jeevaraj said that a delegation from Sringeri had met the CM seeking solution to various problems. Yellow Leaf Disease has compelled planters to migrate from the district.

“The delegation has requested the CM to provide interest free loans. We have also demanded the CM to open Polytechnic College in Sringeri,” he said.

State General Secretary C T Ravi, MLA Dr Y C Vishwanath among others were present.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 20: One more person tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, taking the total number of cases to 25, as the Left government announced a Rs 20,000 crore financial package to tide over the present crisis being faced by the southern state in the wake of the virus outbreak.

The multi-crore special package includes Rs 500 crore health package, Rs 2,000 crore loans and free ration.

The man who tested positive had returned from Dubai and hailed from the northern Kasaragod district, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters after a COVID-19 review meeting.

He said 65 people were hospitalised on Thursday.

"At least 31,173 people are under surveillance, of whom 237 are in observation in hospitals across the state" he said.

Detailing the financial package, Vijayan said loans worth Rs 2,000 crore would be made available to needy families through all-women network 'Kudumbashree' during April-May.

Rural employment guarantee programmes worth Rs 1,000 crore each will be implemented in April-May, he said.

Social security pension of Rs 1,320 crore, to be given in April, would be distributed this month, he said, adding that 50 lakh people are benefited through the pension scheme.

Those belonging to the below poverty line (BPL) and Anthyodaya, who are not receiving social security pension, would be given Rs 1,000 each, for which Rs 100 crore would be earmarked.

Cutting across APL and BPL families, 10 kg free ration would be given and Rs 100 crore would be set apart for the purpose, he said.

A string of 1,000 low-cost hotels, providing food at Rs 20, would be opened across the state next month, the chief minister added.

The 'fitness' charges of autorickshaws and taxis and one month tax of stage and contract carriages would be waived, Vijayan said.

Bengaluru Jul 29: There will be a centralised system in place in Karnataka to classify asymptomatic, symptomatic and mild symptomatic persons and recommend treatment based on the severity of the cases, said Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday here.

"Various existing apps related to COVID-19 will be brought under one platform to get real-time information which will assist in strategising allocation of hospitals/beds to the needy. This will probably remove the delay in bed allocation and treatment which is being faced now. The patients will get all information in one phone call," Dr Sudhakar said.

Sudhakar spoke with a team of experts from the government and Infosys.

Referring to a company by name Step 1, which is providing such services in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, the Minister said that a similar system will be implemented in the state as well.

"This company is having a team of doctors and nurses which is guiding the people whether they need hospital treatment or home isolation after they are tested positive for COVID-19. More than 70 per cent of the positive cases are being asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and are advised to go for home isolation," the minister said.

"The load on the hospitals is reduced and severe cases can be administered proper treatment. Infosys co-ordinates with the government to provide technical support for this system," Dr Sudhakar added.

Earlier during the day, the minister held a video conference with the heads of private medical colleges to review COVID preparedness.
The government has already passed guidelines to allocate 50 per cent of hospital beds for COVID patients.
