Udupi, February 24: By-election to the Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary constituency will give a new dimension to the political scenario in the state and JD(S) will announce its candidate against Congress and BJP on February 27, said JD(S) State President HD Kumaraswamy.

The former CM was in Kollur on Friday morning to participate in a chandika Homa at Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, as part of birth day celebrations of his wife and MLA Anita Kumaraswamy. He also addressed a press conference in Udupi.

Even as 123 taluks in the state have been affected by draught, the former CM B S Yeddyurappa had been practicing black mail politics, to regain the CM's seat, which he lost to Sadananda Gowda. “If he (Yeddyurappa) had given a deadline to the government, to take rehabilitation works in the draught affected taluks, he would have been a great leader”, the JD (S) leader said.

“Yeddyurappa gives the deadline to his party high command to reinstate him as the chief minister of Karnataka. At the same time CM D V Sadananda Gowda claims that he continues to be the chief minister. Both of them had become a laughing stock before the six crore people of the state. Administration in the state has been in a pathetic situation”, he said and demanded the resignation of Sadananda Gowda on moral grounds.

MLA Anitha Kumaraswamy, President of the State JD(S) Minority Cell Azeem, Mahendra Kumar, District JD(S) President Deviprasad Shetty, Shalini Shetty Kenchanoor and others were present.

Bengaluru, Jan 16: Members and activists of social organisation Rakshana Vedike on Thursday staged a protest and demanded the arrest of BJP MLA Somashekhara Reddy, for his 'provocative' remarks and statements.

The protesters gathered near Gandhi’s statue near Maurya circle in the city and demanded that the BJP MLA should be arrested immediately.

The protesters alleged that Reddy’s remark were aimed at inciting communal hatred and that his remarks do not do justice to his being an elected representative of the people in the state assembly.
